Default ITunes Issue

Hey There,

I am using WinXp Pro SP2, just did a fresh install, twice. After installing Itunes 7.7 and trying to run it, the program will crash before itunes even starts. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well as trying to delete anything apple on the computer and then reinstalling. As I said previously, I have actually done two complete formats and installs and issue continues to happen. I have two gigs of ram, intel core 2 duo 6320 and a Geforce 8800GTS. I have also added the program to the DEP list. I am at a loss at what to try here and a google search has not brought me any viable resoltutions. Any help here would be much appreciated.

Have you tried an older version of I tunes. You don't have to have the latest version to get your music fix.

I have not tried an older version recently, but I do recall I had the same problem before hand with older versions. Thank you for the suggestion though

Dang I remember I had this problem I don't remember the fix though. I think it was something with the registry. Try a registry cleaner/fixer.

EDIT: Does Quicktime work? Cause if that doesn't itunes surely won't.

Could just use a superior media player/manager like Winamp 5 with an iPod plugin (im assuming you're using iTunes with your iPod, otherwise that bloated piece of crapware is useless)

As for resolving the issues with your current install of iTunes, I doubt a registry update will help since you say you've reformated twice already.

Off the top of my head, make sure you have the latest redist. package of the .NET runtime libraries installed, and upgrade your SP2 install to SP3.

Good luck

iTunes really is a load of carp. The only reason I use it is because it's designed for idiots, of which I am one.

Seriously, this application has a lot of issues; conflicts with other programs seem to be commonplace. I remember reading something about anti-virus....what are you running?

that is why i hate Ipod no choice of using Itune

like better a good MP3 player with WMP or just simply copy/paste ,easy

as for your problem , is that happen every time you plug in your ipod to your USB port?

hm, I've been using it for a couple years and don't recall having any issues at all. But I don't let it update either. I figure if it does everything I want from it now, why update?

cruelk, If you haven't already tried it, try this version (7.6.2.9). It works fine for me with XP Pro SP3.

Hey thanks to all you guys.

My XP pro is fully updated, at least with as many updates as I could find. I am using Avast antivirus. I have used registry cleaners, but as someone said before, I have done two fresh installs. I thank you guys for all of your help, I will definately search up that winamp plugin and see how that works. Once again, thank you everyone for the help.

Yeah, iTunes has always had a zombie-like problem with me where it refuses to stay dead, and reopens every time I exit it. Now it crashes when I click quit, so I have to ctrl-alt-delete and end process, several times, to kill it. FFS Apple.

I read about a problem like that a while ago and it said to disable the "Bonjour" service. There were many other solutions too, including one that had to do with the NOD32 anti-virus.
