Default WEP Encryption for WMP54G

My dad has the wireless side of the router. He upgraded to XP Home edition and we got it working, but now i need to figure out how to setup WEP under wireless network connections properties. i go in and select WEP and it gives me an option to enter a key, and re enter it, I then uncheck the box below that and put in Key 1 for a selection.

Then it says "network pass must be 40 bits or 104 bits depending on network config.

This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii Characters, or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters".

the internet will work on the wireless maching on channel 1 and with no wireless security.
can anyone help?

EDIT: Figured it out.
