merging video files

I need some suggestions on how to merge avi, wmv, mpeg whatever format of video files.
Right now the only problem I'm having with avi files.

I'm using AVI MPEG RM WMV Joiner right now but on some movies it says format cannot be recognized. In the help file it says that if you get an error like that be sure that the video is playable. Which is strange because the video plays just fine.

Someone suggested using VirtualDub and when I open the avi file in virtualdub I get this error...

Do you have all of the most up to date codecs?

as far as I know.
which ones would I need just to make sure?

(all the videos playback perfectly fine)

i got it working

I needed Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Decompressor
I took a look thru www.vcdhelp.com forums and found somone with the same problem and somone had suggested a tool called Gspot that tells you what codecs are needed for specific video files.

That fixed it
