| My office computer lady couldnt figure this out so she sent the drive home with me for the weekend. When I boot up, the drive shows up in the BIOS as a slave, but in windows 2k it doesnt show up in my computer. Nor does it show up in admin-tools under computer manager, where I would normally assign it a letter so it could be accessed. So I bring it home to my XP Pro system and plug it in. Again, it shows up in Post, there it is, WD 77073040 (or whatever) and then the Windows XP Pro splash screen comes up and the computer never boots. I cant figure it out. Any help? | ||

| Apex Techie Lite | BZA, Sounds like this could be a bad engine, do you have an external enclosure to put the drive in? If so try that, after about 15 minutes windows detected a drive that was doing the same thing with me. Does the hard drive feel like it is spinning up when you turn the system on? | |

| Apex Techie Lite | Is windows trying to install it, or just sitting there? A USB or fire wire enclosure so you can put the drive in it and hook it up that was the only way I was able to get windows to see it. | |

| how would I know if windows is trying to install it? The little blue bar that goes back and forth while XP is loading up is moving....it just feels like it will never stop. And when the HDD is moving, it kinda moves in a pattern. like. bzz bzz bzzzzz bzz click, bzz bzz bzzzzz bzz click, bzz bzz bzzzzz bzz click, bzz bzz bzzzzz bzz click And ive been around. just super busy at work, no time for computer stuff. just been slaving away. Its a busy time of year in the Insurance business. All I want for Christmas is an ATI 9800 Pro 128. If you were lookin for gift ideas. ANd hey, when did Mrs. Claus get a boob job and a bikini wax? | ||

| Ok Iread in an article in MAx PC a while back that a last dith effort to retrieve at least some file on an HDD right before or after it has died was to put it in plastic and stick it in the freezer for a while dunno what it does to the motor but it supposed to make it work again for a lil while anyway. | ||
