Winrar file not showing as such

my problem -

I downloaded a file that was rar'd into parts , but when i go to UN-rar it , it shows as a "split file" and i cant even point it to winrar or anything. any idea what happen'd

i've d/l the file twice, this happened both times, others have d/l it and say it works fine.

What is the extension of the file? I get this a lot when downloading files with the extension of .rxx, where the xx is a high number. By default winrar only goes so high in the numbering scheme, so you have to tell windows to open it with winrar. It also depends on how clean you keep your registry.

If the extension is .001, .002, .003 etc. you need to use something called HJSplit to join it back together.

just change the default program for the file to winrar and then the options to unrar it will show up when you right click it to unrar it

Not necessarily, it is possible to split an archive in a way that you get a series of files that look as if they should be joined with HJ Split, but in fact just need to be extracted by running the first file in the series, which should (in my experience) open with WinRAR, even when the rest won't.

I could post up some examples, but don't feel like incriminating myself...

Mace, in your case it does sound like a job for HJ Split. Im sure you'd have noticed if the first file in the series had the WinRAR logo.

thanks everyone , and yup the first file is xxxx.001 and os on ............

I'll give hj split a shot , sounds like it is what im lookin for

i woulda posted a SS , but the whole incrimination thang stopped me
