Default adobe flash player

none of the videos on youtube work i just get

' Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.'

So apparently i need Adobe's latest version of Flash Player which is this 'You have version 9,0,47,0 installed' in order to watch videos on you tube. I downloaded it following the link on youtube and videos still wont play. i have checked the settings in ie and firefox and javascript and java are enabled in both....help please as i have no ideas left.
