yet another sata problem... (asus p4p800dlx, wd1200)

*MSI Cr52-m cd-rw
*Intel pentium 4 2.6ghz 800mhzfsb w/ ht
*Mitsumi 7-in-1 usb 2.0 media drive (includes floppy)
*Asus p4p800 deluxe i865pe mb w/ sata
*Kingston Kvr400x64c3ak2/1g 1gb kit ddr400 pc3200 memory
*Western Digital Caviar SE WD1200JD 120gb Serial ata
7200rpm hd w/ 8mb buffer
*Nvidia Quadro 4 980 xgl videocard
*WindowsXP Home Edition

First off, the WinXp is Legal. So thats not the problem (heh or is it

Second, for some strange reason, unless i enable raid, i cant make my HD bootable. This is a problem because i only have one hd. If i turn raid off, and i install windows, i install the promise winxp sata drives @ f6 and it gives me a partmgr.sys error. "page fault error in unpaged area" Then all this Hexy crap!

But if i enable raid, then it just says HD not found even if i install sata drivers, raid drivers, or sata and raid drivers.

What am i doing wrong>??

Im using the power adapter and the sata cable, i know theres another hole for direct power from the mainboard cables w/o the adapter, do u need that too? I had it plugged in, but it didnt make a difference.

Maybe promise is the wrong drivers?

there are 4 SATA channels on that board.....which one are you using.... it makes a difference. if look at the channels there marked sata raid and sata respectivly.... make sure it isnt on the sata raid channel, and is on the sata channel

hmm, are you sure? i see 4 ide (via) channels 2 raid 2 non, but i only see 2 sata , and they are neither marked raid or otherwise.

oops my bad d00d, i thought you had the 875 board....sorry about that. i have the p4p800 at work on a test bench i will look at it tomarrow and let you know

The p4c800-e has the 4 sata chanels the one he has is different.

Maybe u need to install the ICH5R intel raid drivers and not the promise ones.

i installed the intel drivers, still no dice.

do i have to use raid if i want it to boot? Because i only have 1 sata drive!

I don't know that particular mobo but I was having a boot problem with my sata drive until I set the bios to boot from scsi.
