| Ok not sure if this is the correct place to ask this, but here is the question i have, i have a DFI mobo here is the model of it is a DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard,This is not the one i just bought from Glitterekill but pretty much the same one,i am also using this for memory Kingston HyperX 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory. I have another 2 gb of the same ram i can put in it and i am pretty sure the DFI mobo will support up to 4GB of memory, but when i go to try just 1 strip of the memory being 1gb giving me a total of 3gb of memory total. I am getting one long high pitch sound or alarm, now i have not tried it with all the slots full to give me 4gb i just wanted to see if it would be ok to run 3gb at first if it did then i would try the 4th strip. Now i know all this memory has the same specs in all and runs flawless on 2gb, i am just not sure why i am getting this alarm sound or if i am doing something wrong. Here is a picture of what the DFI mobo looks like. This is the specs on the memory.
Right now the only memory slots i am using for 2gb of this memory is the yellow slots on the mobo and it is running perfit, i have also tried ether slots ( being there orange slots) to add the extra 1gb strips to give me a total of 3gb and i am still getting the 1 long alarm sound and of course the computer does nothing just sits there with the alarm running of course i shout it down immediately. Can some one tell me am i am doing something wrong cause i thought since it was the same memory with same specs and the mobo will support up to 4gb why am getting this alarm sound.

| Have you tried each stick individually to verify they can all post? Could the system just not like having an odd stick out? I Tried adding 2 more sticks to my server while running 2003 server and it would BSOD at boot. Had to do a reinstall of the OS to get it to take the extra RAM for some reason. I was also mixing and matching RAM. However the bus speed (usually 121 when overclocked) never got close to PC2700 or PC3200 speeds, so memory timings never posed a boot issue. Are you certain the new ram is the same speed and timings as the existing pair? Honestly my real question is why are you even trying to run 1 stick from a matched pair when you have the slots for both??? Try all 4 and let us know how it goes!!! | ||

Yes all 4GB are all the same speed with same timing, My bad i was afraid if i ran only one at at a time i might only ruin 1 strip vs all 4 together if it did not work, again this is all new to me and i just wanted to see if i could do it before i had ask for any help on the memory and the DFI mobo. Snowman has help me to get it with all 4 sticks of ram apparently and the computer is running, had to do a little tweaking in the bios to the voltage and got it running, the only real problem as of right now is it is only showing 3.25 GB and not 4GB not exactly sure why that is, Snowman is suppose to help me a little more later today as it is 12:45am here and it is time for bed. I do thank you for your help, but if you or any one else wishes to post any help or further info on helping here it would be greatly appreciate. Now if anyone is curious i am running for my OS it is XP Pro 32bit right now I might also try what you said about reloading my OS to see if that helps. Thanks Master Yunk for your reply, but i am not using Vista x86 as of right now on this pc i am using XP Pro 32 bit since this is my gaming rig, but i do also have XP Pro in 64 bit and i do have both versions of Vista Ultimate 32 and 64 bit i will have to try my Vista 64 bit or XP Pro 64 bit to see if that will make a difference. Now i know that Vista still has some problems with games let, so i wonder should i try the XP Pro 64 bit first.

| It's funny, I dealt with the same problem you are two weeks ago. From what I know the Expert board will not run 3 sticks of DDR (See the chart on page 29 of the user manual which is available HERE if you don't have a copy) Check out THIS thread at DFI's forums. It's referencing my OCZ Platinum sticks, but you will probably still learn a lot about your issue as well. Towards the end (page 3) I start to get some great results from using 4GB in that Lanparty Expert board. For one, you have to set the Command Per Clock to 2T (disable). Also, the ldt/fsb should be at x3.0 In addition, on the Advanced Chipset Features screen of your BIOS, you want to Enable the "Memory Hole for PCI MIMO" setting. I'd also encourage you to run OCZ Tony's E704-2BT BIOS which is available HERE. There is a downloadable CD Image at the end of the first post. That bootable cd offers tons of great tools including the ability to flash your choice of about 9 different BIOS and a great BIOS clearing set of instructions. I'd recommend: 1) Flash with Tony's E704-2BT BIOS 2) set the BIOS to Load Optimized Defaults, then go to the Adv Chipset Features page and Enable the "Memory Hole for PCI MIMO" option 3) Boot the Computer and see if it will boot the 4 sticks. LMK if there's anything else I can help you out with. Good Luck!! ADD-Hadn't realized Sn0wMan had already solved this for your, but I'll leave the info. in case someone else needs it. | That's all the RAM that a 32 bit OS can see. If you can get x64 to work then it will see all 4GB. I would try either Vista or XP 64 bit and everything should be fine. The problem was the cmos needed to be cleared. I had you bump the voltage because from my experience RAM tends to like a little more when using 4 sticks. I dunno maybe it's just me. Also I am running vista ultimate on another PC here and it is working great, so I wouldn't worry about it not working with your hardware. | ||

| Here is a link to all the drivers. Just grab them and then put them on the other computer. The link includes vista x64 edition. If vista won't let you install unsigned drivers then go to start>run>type cmd, wait for it to show up at the top of the start menu then right click on it>run as administrator>then at the command prompt type bcdedit -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS Then press enter and reboot. | ||
