| I have had three routers in this house. All of them work for a few weeks, then they drop connection. No one gets internet. I had a Linksys WRT54G, a Netgear and a Gigabyte BC-5401 or something like that. I have cable internet, and I am the Cable Guy, I have ran several thorough diagnostics on my cable and of all the hundreds of houses I have been in, my cable is the most perfect cable in this whole damn county. I have tried different MTA's (have digital phone too), probably had 5 or 6 different ones in the house. The maintenance guys from work swept my tap up on the pole. No one on this forum has better cable than I do. If I plug the ethernet right off the back of the MTA to my PC, I have internet. As soon as I throw a router in the mix, works for a few weeks, then nothing. Then when it stops working, no matter what I do, nothing works. I have it setup for Dynamic IP, and not PPPoE (phone) or static IP (t1), dynamic IP. All routers show no WAN IP, but packets are being sent on the TX and received on the RX. Windows won't let me connect to the DHCP server. My setup is an Arris TM502 > Gigabyte PCI router > 3Com SuperStack II 10/100 12-port hub > PC's. I tried rebooting the 3Com's, still have nothing. My computers all hate me. Have I been banned from the internet or something? | ||

| Anyone else see the irony? The cable installer having issues with his cable. ![]() I went thru many routers and had issues. This one seems the most stable for me to date. I assume you got the 15mbs they offer. Damn, I wish I had that. | ||

| I'm not switching to DSL to save my life, especially when I get cable everything for free. My cable is perfect, for the cable guys out there I have a reverse of 44dBmv and my signal level on ch. 88 (609mhz) is 1.2 dBmv. new wiring in my home, new splitter, new drop coming in, and all the neighbor's internet works fine. I lose wireless AND ethernet as well. The connection is there, all the PC's see the router, but no internet connection is there. I'm gonna dick with it a little more when I get home from work today. This is pissing me off to no end. | ||

| try throwing your router as far as you possibly can, if it breaks buy a new one, if it doesnt, buy a new one anyway. hell, buy 2 or 3 different ones, keep the one that kicks the most ass, return the ones that dont. i hate routers, finicky pieces of trash they are. | ||

That's what I was thinking, use an old computer and build your own router. Except I was going to suggest server 2003, but linux is undoubtedly cheaper and easier. From everything I've read so far, it sounds like you should have everything you need to build your own wireless router. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I have an WRT54G myself and used to suffer the same issue. Luckily, I found the solution here. It may or may not be what's wrong with your setup, but it's something to try. And of the firmwares they suggest, I personally am using dd-wrt and have had no problems at all. Just make SURE to follow the installation instructions to the letter. d | ||

| Banned | I had a similar problem when I had Vonage here where I live. The cable guy said that my internet issues was probably due to the signal strength (or some such) of the phone service. My issue was slow down and phone service not working worth a crap or not working at all. Dunno though. If I reset the modem and router it went back to normal for a little while. | |
