Default Removing an operating system.

I've got Windows XP and Windows 2000 on my computer, and I was wondering how I could effectively remove 2000 without corrupting XP?

A few more details would certainly help.

Are the two OS's on the same drive on separate partitions?

Or are they on different physical drives?

And are they on seperate partitions? Do you have data on the Windows 2000 install that you want to keep? Which is the defualt os when booting?

The more details you can give us the easier it is to help you.

There's no data on the 2000 OS that I'd want to keep, because I only use the XP. There's no "default", I have to select which OS to run when I boot up.

I honestly have no idea what a "partition" is.

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

I looked at some previous threads involving operating systems, and got here. Looks like I've only got one partition. However, I cann't figure out how to "delete" anything. The option isn't given to me.

having 2 oses on the same partition is a bad thing. I would not recommend removing any of the windows 2000 files unless you know what you are doing. I am surprised that you dont have registry's errors loading programs when you boot between the two os'es

here is what you can do safely.

you can take this line from the boot.ini

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

so then 2000 will not be a boot option

also you can probly remove the winnt folder as long as any of the programs you installed on xp did not think the winnt was the main os partition.
