| Okay, so, this problem started a few days ago. I'll turn on my computer, the internet will work, and then it will just stop working. I go to the Networks panel and it INSISTS I still have a connection, and all the lights on my modem are on. So I hit 'Repair' and it starts working for about 30 seconds, then stops again. I look at the connection properties and repeat. The Recieved counter goes up, then just freezes. The Sent number keeps going up, but the recieved one stops. Repairing the connection makes it work for 30 seconds or so. So I reformat, because it's been a while. Nope, same problem. So I change to a networking card I bought a while ago (D-Link DGE 530-T), since I've been on my mainboard NIC (Gigabyte GA-K8U-939), and I figure maybe it's going. Well, I get the drivers and, at first glance, all is well. It works for three days. Now, today, I come home, and it's back to the same thing! Arg! I have googled and googled, and no luck. It's driving me insane! I can barely do anything! My ISP is Buckeye Express, and my OS is Windows XP Professional x64. I have no firewall software atm (Zonealarm + x64 = OMGNOES!) and nothing that would inadvertantly cut my internet connection off like that. Anyone have any idea? Thank you so much. | ||

| If you have cable, you may have VERY low signal behind the modem, another dead giveaway is if you have phone through your cable company too, and your calls get dropped. The cable light might be on that doesn't mean it has good signal, or the signal could be leaking from somewhere. If you have some sort of a cable RF signal meter I would check behind it and see what you have. Anything less than -7dBmv you have a problem. Also, do you have digital cable as well? If the picture pixelates (also called macro blocking) you may have a cable problem. If you do have cable I know how to get into the diagnostic screens on most cable modems PM me if you need more info. If you have DSL you also might want to replace the DSL filter. But I don't know diddly squat about DSL, I'm a cable guy, not a DSL guy. Although, I like women with DSL ![]() ![]() | ||

| Thanks BM, I was going to contact Buckeye tomorrow anywho, since I've done all the troubleshooting I can and I'm pretty sure it's not a problem on my end. EDIT: j-dogg, I do have cable, yes, but we don't have digital cable. I think I'mma try Buckeye (It wouldn't be the first time they've messed up my internet) but if nothing comes of that, I'll be sure to shoot you a PM. DSL was crap compared to cable, and we're ditching our home phone anyway. Last edited by Baka Sempai; 23-July-07 at 11:00 PM.. | ||

| I had the same problem with the chepo modem that Comcast tried to stick me with a while back (Motorola Surfboards were "out of stock" supposedly). I took the POS back the same day and demanded a Surfboard modem, and guess what? They magically found one somewhere back in the stockroom. Been working fine ever since. | ||
