| Lately I've been having issues with my internet connection dieing if my computer is idle for more than a few hours (sometimes even for one hour). For instance if I go to sleep or to class and come back, if I'm already signed onto AIM I can talk to people but I can't sign on if I'm not and I can't access any web pages, basically, no internet. I've been trying to find a solution for this and might actually look into buying a separate ethernet card. A friend of my suggested manually resetting the DNS when it happens, but that would be a pain to do, well, it would probably be better than restarting all the time. Does anybody have any ideas for a more permanent solution? By the way, Cable Modem: Moto SBV5120 Router: Moto WR850G(wireless) I have it connected to my mobo's ethernet port. (MSI 915-P Combo) I also have a Netgear WGR614 wireless router that I got for free, didn't use because the range wasn't as good as the Moto but will try if someone suggests the router to be a problem. Thank you. -RRW | ||

| Hm, well on a whim, after it happened again and I tried to Repair the connection to no avail, I went to my firewall, powered it down and tried to access the internet, and you know what? That was it, for some reason my firewall was blocking me from accessing the internet after I've been idle. | ||

| This is probably not it.. but check your network card settings and see if its set to any kind of power save mode.. This is more something you would see on a laptop but might as well check.. Windows has the ability to turn off NIC's to conserve power... could be the problem.. good luck **EDIT** directly responded to your first post.. lol.. should have read more.. anyway congrats on figuring it out ![]() | ||
