Default Dell 4150 Laptop

I'm having this crazzy problem with my laptop, It was given to me from a friend so I'm not going to complain, but the image does not fill the screen, when you put it in 1024x768 its like off set to the side about three inches and does not scale to the entire lcd. when it boots there is like a 5x5 box that comes up, why would it do such a thing and not auto scale to the lcd?

anyone?

thank you...

Hmmm. That is strange. Are all the drivers up to date? Have you checked Google for any info about the laptop and to see if anyone else has the same problem? If the video card drivers are up to date (and its an Nvidia chip) there should be an option to adjust the overscan which *might* fix your problem, though thats generally reserved for tv's.

all drivers are up to date, there is a scaling option, but it just distorts everything and nothing happens.

Post some screenshots of the available resolutions to give us an idea of what it is looking like. I think I've seen this problem before. eascarface is right, usually drivers are to blame.

Screenshots come out normal, but in the morning I'll take pictures with a camera of the problem, its 3 in the morning here.

Goodnight all.

Update later on.

thank you

Whats up, when ever my dad plugs his laptop into the docking station thing at home, his laptop monitor when he takes it out, does exactly what you have been discribing. I am not sure how he fixed it, i am just going to asume he changed the resolution back :S

Well, considering the native resolution for that monitor should be 1400 by 1050 i would expect it to have that bar to make it so it is not distorted. I would suggest using the native reso and see how that works

Look in the bios for screen stretching or something worded similar and turn it off. This has helped with almost every screen issue I have run into on laptops.
