| I was not sure where to put this. It looks like I lost the onboard NIC on my old NF7-S Athlon 2600 folding box. During a recent storm, both of the onboard NIC's on my main computer went out, tossed in a new NIC and it works. The computer in question is a folding box running Ubuntu Linux. I checked on the borg today, no internet. The cat5 from the switch to the box is good, and the computer seems fine except for the network. I have disabled the onboard NIC in the BIOS, and tried 3 different NIC cards and cannot get the computer on the network. Ifconfig does not list the inet addr, Bcast, or Mask like my other Linux box does (that works). My Linux skills are pretty much download, install, get folding. Troubleshooting, I am lost. Any ideas? | Well, I'm not a huge Ubuntu user, but basically for the NIC to show up, you have to load the kernel module for it, then ifconfig will show it. Maybe do a quick google search on which driver that particular card uses, and try to "modprobe" it. Ubuntu may have some sort of gui network setup, like Suse does... but I'm not familiar with it. I guess I need to get my head out of the sand and get an Ubuntu box running, so I can start helping people with it! ![]() I'll play with the Ubuntu live CD I have. If I figure it out, I"ll let you know. | ||

| Thanks Funky. I have decided to retire that rig. Too many things seem to be going wrong, and I do not have the desire to mess with it. Plus, I need that hard drive to backup my main rig. I am taking a beating as far as the folding @home points, but I plan on some upgrades soon. Wow, pulled the plug on the first motherboard I ever bought. RIP. E | ||
