| Whenever I start up my computer, I get the New Hardware Wizard thing pop-up to install drives for a US Robotics modem which I removed from the system because it wasnt working. Now it keeps asking for the drivers and I dont know how to tell it that I dont use the modem anymore. oh i have one more question, also when I start up, a balloon down by the taskbar says some programs have been disabled because they might cause Windows to run improperly. I looked and they are for Roxio easy cd creator, which I removed from my computer a while back. How do I get rid of them? It isnt listen under Add/Removie Programs. Thanks | ||

| Go into your system properties and look at device hardware. You probably have a modem listed there with a red X or yellow exclamation mark. Select it, right click, and click remove. You other problem is more than likely related to some old entries in your registry. Do a google for jv16 powertools, install it, find the roxio entry and remove it. Jv16 is easy to use but is also very powerful, so don't go overboard. | ||

| Yeah older versions of Roxio arent compatable with XP which is a laugh because the built in burning software in XP was developed by Roxio, go figure. Another suggestion; start your computer in safe mode then go to device manager, you'd be suprised at how many more devices can show up in safe, like anything you've ever installed. Like Big Akita said, the Roxio stuff is in the registry. Be sure to back up your registry before you mess with it and be sure you have the option for the enitre registry backed up and noy just the current key. You can also try running msconfig (go to run and type msconfig) then look in the startup for anything that say Roxio and uncheck it. | ||

| I've been in that very situation ... aterial spray from the registry. There are many utilities ouut there that may or may not remove all the droppings from previous hardware/software installations. Many of those play at hacking the registry. My experience is that a fresh os install cures not only those anoying droppings left by previous installations but, tends to improve overall system performance ![]() | ||
