| http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833342001 Before you say, "But this is the OC section!!!111WTFBBQ", I have a feeling that the RAM on it can be OCed, possibly even the processor. | ||

| Yes, it is a high priced NIC, but if any of you have been keeping up with it and even taken a look at the initial release test results you will see that it is indeed a Killer NIC, just a bit pricey still. http://gear.ign.com/articles/729/729557p1.html http://gear.ign.com/articles/729/729733p1.html | ||

| Some of those features are coming out in new motherboards, hell even dual 10/100/1000 that are linked together to get 20/200/2000. I'm sorry, I would have to see this thing in action before i drop that kind of money on a nic card. | ||

| Wow, my graphics card isn't worth that much. Ummm, doesn't Bigfoot make a lot of ethernet cards for servers? I can't remember, btu I think I may have seen an advertisement for a TCP/IP off load engine in a linux magazine. I can't remember what make it was. Is this essentally an off load engine? I found a little bit about the card here, http://pcclub.com/forum/messageview....threadid=18588 | ||

There are 2 links to a review of it in my previous post. Is the price excessive? I think so. Would I buy one if it were priced more "reasonably"? More than likely, if only to have an extra F@H CPU in my rig... not to mention the possibilities for the FNAs.

But wouldn't you have to have the proper switches to make sure you're getting what you paid for?

I agree wholeheartedly on the marketing. It's not "just an overpriced NIC".

I find it slightly ironic that you made a thread on this, your comment after sending you a link on this was a quote "If the price is more than you can afford, then read no further" And then went on to say something like "And that would be me, no further reading required" I guess you liked the tech a bit more than your pocketbook allows for ...I think I mentioned, keep reading... "Review item" ![]() This falls in the same category as Physics Cards, yeah they would be nice to have, but not at those prices! If the tech takes off, there will be much cheaper/cloned/reduced feature versions this time next year ![]()

Ah, but that's a year of being behind the ping! ![]() I think the real advantage of this card is three-fold: 1. As stated, it off-loads the UDP/IP processing to a seperate CPU -- virually removing the network stack from Windows, and freeing up CPU cycles. 2. Since the gaming packets are prioritized, in-game pings are lower and response time is faster. 3. FNAs. This will be the real strong-point. If mobo makers are starting to make NICs that work the same as the KillerNIC, the advantage that KillerNIC will likely have is this feature. Being able to off-load VOIP, Chat, X-Connect ... possibly even anti-virus apps, which can really chew up resources ... and other background apps that we use during gaming will help out significantly. But that's just my .02 bucks, and what the heck do I know ... ![]() Will I spend $300 for this puppy? Honestly ... I'm thinkin' 'bout it! -godling
