| I'm thinking about building a mouse pad totally made out of ice using peltier. Where can I get some that cold? I'm probably looking for something around 25 degress fahrenhiet. Would this be any good? http://cgi.ebay.com/Huge-50mm-170-Wa...QQcmdZViewItem | ||

| Thats not bad, but youe better off with a 80W Pelt and a cold Plate. The cold side temp Depends on a number of things. 1) Current and Voltage- If your Undercurrent or undervoltage you wont get your 80W of Cooling Power 2) Load- If you have no load on the cold side you will get things Cold, Very Cold for that matter Now, I did some experiments a while ago when I got my pelt, and I can probably say you can power it with an Old AT PSU. You wont get 80W, But you will Still Get it cold enough to keep what you want cold. If you wanted the Full 80W, you need a seperate PSU. EDIT: ooooh you want to make ICE..I thought you wanted to make a cold mouse pad. In That case, your going to need an extra PSU for it, if you want the desired effect. | ||

| Apex Techie II | Here ya go! https://www.icemat.com/shop/default.asp?main=products But seriously, that's a cool idea, pun intended. The problem I would see would be how to disperse the cold among the entire surface area, and keep it frozen with your hand resting on it. Not to mention you have to cool the hot side of the pelt, so don't forget about that. Maybe you could have the pelt, psu, and cooling for the hot side of the pelt in a small case which would act as a water chiller for an antifreeze loop, then run that up to your mouse pad which will have metal coils and the water. Good luck with your setup! I'd be interested to see some pics if you get it working. Jeff / vmspionage | |

| Well, I would need about 37 of these to get the same surface area as my Icemat. http://cgi.ebay.com/Peltier-Junction...QQcmdZViewItem These things can get as cold as -14 degrees fahrenheit. Say goodbye to the cat sitting on my mousepad! Since they're so cold, do you think I could get way with spacing them apart every half inch or so? Assuming I can get these at $2 less than the listed price for buying in bulk, I'd be looking at $592 minus cooling. What would be a practical way to cool these things? According to the seller they can boil water on the hot side! I think I should look at another source of power too if I want to use these, could you imagine an extra 4699 watts on the electical bill !Looks like I'll have to find another cooling solution. Seriously, if a freezer can keep 10 cubic feet below freezing and use less than 1/4 the power of the peltiers there must be another solution. | ||

| Sigh...I cant believe you want to do this but to each their own. You do realize frostbite will set in quickly . Heres what you need . meanwell 600 watt power supply http://www.frozencpu.com/psu-123.html 437watt peltier http://www.frozencpu.com/exp-04.html this will easily cool a 6 x 8 x 1/4 copper plate to below freezing at room temp. if you dont believe me, than buy two of each. it'll only cost you around $30.00 a month in electricity. | ||

| I saw a thing when i was googling a month ago about a floating mouse. they applied the ice ring theory w/ fans and holes, to make the mouse move better. You will be reading a long page then you try to move ur hand but wait what your hand is frozen to the mouspad. ![]() If the power goes out what u ganna do? ![]() | ||

| aww common guys, let off him. I may not want to use the device that he proposes, but I'd sure like to see it. heck, he could even make a little mini zamboni for it... If he put enough time and effort into the project he could claim to be the only person with a UPS for his mousepad. | ||

| Well if you rigged a water table or a thin pan or box to hold water to have an ice sheet, but it could get a little messy if you hand melted too much water if you have a thin desk a nice HSF combo on the bottom could keep a 80W cool. Yea and watch you Electic bill go up and up. | ||

| the fan pushing air in the mouse doing the hovercraft thing would be cool and over ice (If polished) would be super slick, however the oils on his hand would contaminiate the water and make that a pain for the opitcal clarity effect. Then the cooling it down, it would have to be an extreamly thin ice sheet for the mouse pad because the heat from his hand would melt the water. Also if he did notice a pooling effect happening hes gotta pick up his mouse and let it dry off, wait for the ice sheet to refreeze otherwise he will freeze his mouse to his pad.... i wonder how well u can play a game when u can't move the mouse or you get ice buildup in the mouse laser port ![]() | ||
