Default Dvd Writer Malfunction

Can anyone please tell me why the DVDs that I burn often have poor audio/video tracking and sporatic breaks in them? I'm on my third DVD+- writer and I'm using a 16x speed, dual format, double layer writer. When I've asked friends if they experience similiar problems they say they have but no one seems to know why. I know someone on this site does because you guys are the pimps of tech.....Thanx

it all boils down to 3 things

1. bad media ( im sure a fellow pim can suggest a couple of good brands to buy)
2. you are writing the video file to dvd to fast... slow it down to 4x speed
3. make sure your buffer never goes to 0% while burning...

Thanks for the run-down. I have been using cheap DVDs that I get from Fry's Electronics for about $10 for 50. I'll slow the speed down and get some premium blanks.
