ipodservice.exe is a service that can be disabled in Admin Tools -> Services. For things on startup look at the msconfig startup stuff (Start -> Run. type msconfig).

There is a site called PC pitstop ......... http://www.pcpitstop.com/ and if you go through thier free diag. program at the end there is a page that displays which prossess's you can shut down and which you cant. It been a while since i used the site so i dont remember exactlly but when you see the prossess's that you dont need running just hit control/ alt/ delete and click on the prossess's tab , highlight the prosess and click end then you can also go to MSCONFIG and stop it from starting in the future. that way you wont make a mistake and stop the wrong one.

hope this helps

I like that program when I read about it but it says free to try and it scans the hole computer but then it wants me to pay to fix all the problems but I don't really want to pay 29.99 for it. It would be good if they made it to where it fixed all the problems once and to give a feel of what it can do. (and as I mean pay I mean register and in which you would need to pay to get a license key.

Ok, i know they want you to pay, but if you look at what they say thier gonna fix 90% of it is stuff you can do on your own, like the prosess's they say dont need to be running, just write them all down then go to msconfig and match them up to whats in msconfig and stop them from starting up, one bit of advice though if your not certian DO NOT TURN IT OFF.

No offense mate but you could be a bit clearer here.

The trouble with using an app to clean up your drive is that you could very well get rid of something that will cause you errors and even stop windows from booting. That's why I don't really want to recommend one to you (not that I'm an authority on this kind of software anyway).

If your PC feels a bit shagged out to you then maybe it's time to buy some writeable CD's / DVD's, make copies of all your important data and do a nice fresh install of XP, keeping it in better shape this time round than you did the last. Regularly clean up your registry and just generaly keep things ship shape.

Does this sound like something you can do?

I use Spybot Search + Destroy and MSCONFIG. I still swear my startup time gets worse every time though.

Not really , I mean is your mother going to notice the difference when she's doing her day to day stuff?

You've got to understand that its what's loading at startup and the order it's doing so in is what's really contributing to your slow boot times on both pc's.

If you go to the effort of cleaning up the machine just make sure you keep it ship shape when ur using it in future.
