Default Home Network Chat to others in home ?

Hello to all.
I installed a home network with cable and d-link 604 having fun to 3 computers in home.
Internet works on all.

Question is how do I do like "instant messages" between all computers on windows xp ?

Is there a easy way to do this ?

Or is the a simple shareware program?

Any help would be great.

Thanks Brett in Idaho

I would say the easiest way is to use AOL Instant Messenger or an equivalent, and just know their screennames.

PS - Welcome to PimpRig!

At our school(XP pro, SP2) you can use a run command, I know there are programs you can use that automate using this rather than using the run command, lemmie ask my friends tomorow.

As far as I know .. its "msg * server://

So in the case of the pcs at our school: "msg * scstudents://BJMLAB32 Hey Wanker ^_^"

You can also use tthe information from that command to use the remote shutdown precedure by typing "shutdown -i" in your run area. This will bring up a GUI, its all self explanatory from there.

This message the person on the other end will get is very similar to what people infected with the MS Blast virus were getting.

This got quite out of hand when the whole network was rigged up to a .bat file to shut down everything pc in our school. 260 computers ....not saying I ever did that.

Hope this helps.

Trillian also comes with a feature that allows you to do so..

TYCOON: Those commands (such as shutdown) wont work if the PC has secrity and IT guys disabled it( yea you can do so). I know Netsend USED to work....

netsend worked only because it was a SP1 thing, SP2 autodisables that service.

trillian has one that's local area called Rendezvous. I haven't used it but from what I can tell it is self sufficient and doesn't need a remote server to store it's lists or tell it who's online so if you have a non-internet network it'll still work.
