Default Vista Install

So i have just upgraded to vista but the problem was it took a couple of tries to do it. Some how there is a partial install of vista along with the full one i am using so when booting up i have to select which one i want. Does anyone know how i can get rid of that partial install?? It is not on a separate partition either. Thanks!!!

Try EasyBCD. That should allow you to tweak/fix anything regarding Vista & booting.

Just curious... Did you opt for an upgrade install or a clean install?

From the sound of it and my personal experience with Vista so far (don't ask me how I know this, I'm not at liberty to discuss), you probably opted for the upgrade, but ended up with a clean AND an upgrade, probably from the upgrade rebooting, then booting into a second setup off the DVD.

Have you tried booting up into the clean install option, and going from there?

Well, if Vista is anything like XP (at least in this aspect) then it should be fairly simple.

Run MsConfig (WindowsKey + R... or Start>Run>type "msconfig">Enter)
Click on the Boot.ini tab and in the little dialog box at the top, remove the desired operating system from the text. But be extremely careful, or you'll screw it all up.

If I were you, I'd just format the entire drive and start from scratch... especially if you still haven't loaded up your harddrive too much. But if you can distinguish between which install is complete/partial, then go for the boot.ini tweak.

Just do a reformat, you'll get rid of all the junk that way.
Of course you'll want to backup your saved games and
other important files to a CD or DVD 1st :-)

I'm with Jobi , if ya got all kinds of stuff installed try the msconfig , if its a new install , then format it again.

...looking around, like,"What are ya talkin' about, man?"

I all but admitted it outright, but for reasons that I can't discuss, I can't really discuss ALL the circumstances... Super-Secret Squirrel stuff...

BTW, +Rep to ya for that kick-ass av, Mace!

Well I got it to work. Using msconfig did the trick. I did do an upgrade instead of a clean install. I know a clean install is better but since im at school I don't really have the time to reinstall and transfer all the files over to the new HDD. Thanks for all the help!!!
