| So I sent out my ATi Radeon 9000 for RMA warranty service, because it overheated due to a crap heatsink. Well I wanted to mod it with a Socket 7 HSF when I get it back. Sure it will void the warranty but I wouldn't have to take it in for RMA service if it didn't have a crap HSF in the first place. Since I have loads of Socket 7 HSF's I would take a whack at making one into a GPU cooling fan, most of my HSF's are for 550 MHz and up, one I got 100*F on a 500 OC'd just a wee bit, but u cant OC the K6's worth a damn anyway. If I remember the Radeon 9000 uses a 250 MHz GPU, with 400 MHz DDR memory, so a Socket 7 HSF made for 550 Mhz should be plenty of beef. Not sure if I will OC though, there isn't much of a need for it, as I play Half-Life and Need For Speed, etc. | ||

| well thats where my l33t AutoCAD skillz come into play. I will macine a custom mounting bracket similar to the ones found on Gateway Celeron Processors, the ones that use the huge HS with no fan, and it relies on the PSU fan to cool it. It will probably screw in, I wanted to go for an indutrial look, losta of nuts and screws. However it won't have the pressure plate on the back of the GPU, since it has the holes on the card already (how convienient) Or I might just expoy it on there, but then I can't use Arctic Silver. | ||

| nope, where can I get some, that sounds a hell of a lot easier than making a clip, though he clip IMHO would add extra points to the mod factor. EDIT: thx for the link, if u guys got any other ideas for this mod lemme hear em, I also considered some RAM sinks but I don't know if I would need them, they really don't get that hot. | ||

| Or perhaps he's "funny". Edit: To get back on subject...No J-Dogg that's not ghetto. Nothing involving CAD can be ghetto. Ghetto heatsinks involve you grabbing a hunk of metal, and jamming it on there, and affixing it usind Duck Tape, Bailing Wire, or chewing gum. Reminds me, we once patched a hole in our Rear duallies on our Deuce and a Half in the persian gulf with chewing gum from MREs. Hardens like a rock. Got us where we were going. We also used it alot to fix the radios. | ||
