| Apex Techie Wannabe | I just got in a shipment with a bunch of stuff to mod, but the front panel is looking ugly with everything stealthed but the floppy drive. Any suggestions on how to stealth it? I was thinking some kind of piano hinge with a snap at the top, but I don't have much room since I mounted a toggle switch for my ccs on the faceplate below it. Any help would be appreciated, and thank you very much for all the help with the guitar mod! Working on that right now. | |

| The right answer might be ... a] Remove floppy from 3.5 slot and replace cover. b] Get 3.5-to-5.25 adapter and mod it spiffy. c] Reinsert floppy into spiffy adapter and install This of course assumes empty 5.25 bay and availability of adapter. I got one I could sell ya if you wanted to go that route. -MF | ||

| Sucks though if you have an Antec case like me with the floppy molded into the case. I agree with slider just push it back a little, either that or take it out completely and just put the wires near the case side that comes off so you can hook it up quickly and easily if, by some off-chance, you do need it. | ||

| I originally had a molded floppy drive. I cut the crap out of my case and changed the front to plexi, and put a molded aluminum P4 case badge behind it (courtesy of Best Buy's display's). I actually bought two of the cases, the first set(after) of pics is my modded case and the second two(before) are of my linux box (it was going to be a spare gaming rig, but I have a class that uses linux now and figured I should make it dedicated.) Apolgies for the grainy quality, I took the pics with my PDA. Last edited by Peng Lord; 23-August-03 at 08:26 PM.. | ||

| yeah tekxoid is right, mod the floppy in to the back of your case. i mean you have all that unused spac there. That is where i am going to put mine. i have a reobus, and a temp readout going in my 3 1/2 bays. but i have a door to cover that (Cheiftec Matrix, albeit smoothed). and the fact that it is a mod is cool. | Move it back asbout an inch, then put the faceplate on a springed hinge that pushes backwards. that way it'll flip up/down and reveal the drive like a VHS door type thing. and if you space it right when you instert a disk the button will move out and hold the door open, so it wont jam when theres a floppy in it. The only hard part is making the hinge. | ||
