Default Stealthed A: Drive

I just got in a shipment with a bunch of stuff to mod, but the front panel is looking ugly with everything stealthed but the floppy drive. Any suggestions on how to stealth it? I was thinking some kind of piano hinge with a snap at the top, but I don't have much room since I mounted a toggle switch for my ccs on the faceplate below it. Any help would be appreciated, and thank you very much for all the help with the guitar mod! Working on that right now.

I just don't have a floppy in my nwest rig, only used it for the initial setup and haven't really needed it since then. 1.44MB just doesn't go as far as it used to...

only idea i have is to drop the floppy back a 1/4" and put the faceplate back in...

i too have no floppy, i can access the net faster than the A: drive now anyway....
and i can flash my bios from windows..... i'm pretty much covered.

I gota get a pen drive for school, my Floppy controler on my mobo is damaged some how, and it won't read a drive.

All school comps (I) use WINXP and have USB so it should be no prob.

maybe u could get a pen drive, u can get like 64mb for $20

The right answer might be ...

a] Remove floppy from 3.5 slot and replace cover.
b] Get 3.5-to-5.25 adapter and mod it spiffy.
c] Reinsert floppy into spiffy adapter and install

This of course assumes empty 5.25 bay and availability of adapter. I got one I could sell ya if you wanted to go that route.

I wanna mount my HDD in the 5.25 inch bay, but lost my mounting brackets. Sucks.

Buzz has a good idea there. You're very unlikely to use the floppy very often. just push it back far enough to put the cover back on.

EDIT: Also, you could push the drive back, cut the clips that hold the drive coverplate on, and mount a small hing on one side.

Sucks though if you have an Antec case like me with the floppy molded into the case.

I agree with slider just push it back a little, either that or take it out completely and just put the wires near the case side that comes off so you can hook it up quickly and easily if, by some off-chance, you do need it.

Loose the floppy. Move on-> (USB Drive)

At the very least stealth the fücker above your PSU, good spot.

I originally had a molded floppy drive. I cut the crap out of my case and changed the front to plexi, and put a molded aluminum P4 case badge behind it (courtesy of Best Buy's display's). I actually bought two of the cases, the first set(after) of pics is my modded case and the second two(before) are of my linux box (it was going to be a spare gaming rig, but I have a class that uses linux now and figured I should make it dedicated.) Apolgies for the grainy quality, I took the pics with my PDA.

yeah tekxoid is right, mod the floppy in to the back of your case. i mean you have all that unused spac there. That is where i am going to put mine. i have a reobus, and a temp readout going in my 3 1/2 bays. but i have a door to cover that (Cheiftec Matrix, albeit smoothed). and the fact that it is a mod is cool. IMHO

Thanks for all the help! I think I'll just push it back, and put the face plate in front of it, possibly a hinge on the side. I'd love to stick it in the back, but I have an 18" floppy cable. Not even close to long enough.

Move it back asbout an inch, then put the faceplate on a springed hinge that pushes backwards. that way it'll flip up/down and reveal the drive like a VHS door type thing. and if you space it right when you instert a disk the button will move out and hold the door open, so it wont jam when theres a floppy in it. The only hard part is making the hinge.

i agree with no floppy drive. those things are bootable and if your mobo wont boot it buy a new board. if you dont want to do that just dont have one. when you need it open it up and plug one in. i use compact flash for small file transfers.

No floppy drive gets the vote from me, my case came with a pre-molded drive cover for the floppy, but I just took it out, less wires, cleaner inside, good stuff.

Look - - - - HERE - - - -

I hinged it and enhanced it. The floppy is behind the top 31/2" cover.
