Default CD / DVD Rom drive window

I've seen guides about it but I was wondering how risky it is, I mean, whats the chance that I'll destroy my drive???

THE same rule as allways. Measure twice cut once.
Check to make sure the tray wont hit the window, or the window wont block the tray.
If for some reason the window does block you can either put a window on top. or find a thiner piece for your window.
If you paint it, I don't recomend painting the inside of the tray. It has been succesfull. If you new to this I wouldn't recomend it until you practice on a old cdrom.

You need to take it apart and look at the top section. it will either have a top piece used in clamping the cd integrated into the top of the drive, or you will have a bridge that holds the top, integrated into the frame. i like the ones that have the top integrated into the bridge. but either way, YOU HAVE TO KEEP THIS PIECE.
cut your window slightly smaller than the size of the cd.
Paint the top of the drive case but dont paint the top clamp. tape it off. it HAS TO SPIN.
If you have this piece integrated on a frame bridge, remove it, and paint it flat black. ONCE AGAIN DONT PAINT THE TOP CLAMP.
This should get you there.
Have fun

its pretty easy. i've done 3 of em. main thing is not screwing up the top spinny thing, and having the window not interfereing with the drive tray. usually i just use fancy bolts to bolt a peice of acrylic to the top of the drive, looks pretty cool. The only problem with using bolts is you have to cut into the frame of the drive so the top will fit on. still, not hard to do at all.

here are some pics of one of em. (sorry, buy me a camera. )

overal cdrom. case is black. drive was a 6x toshiba dvdrom (really kick ass drive.)

Here it is powered up night shot. I had 2 more of those color cylcing led's, but they burned out, and they dont really match the blueness of my case anyway.
