| Ok, I saw this mod on a website but I can't remember for the life of me which site it was. It was really slick though. It was part of a stealth mod where the guy removed the eject button and then connected wires from the traces where the eject button used to be and then ran the wires to the analog sound connector. Then he simply connected a momentary switch/button to the the opposite end of a analog sound cable and viola you have a stealthed drive you can pull out and move to different bay and don't have to ever relocate the eject button. Simply unplug it from the drive and extend the wire if need be. He also wired up the activity LED to the same plug and just ran it to where ever he wanted the activity LED to be placed. If I can't find this mod, Im gonna play Dr. Frankenstein on an old drive and cross my fingers. I remember most of it, just not the wiring schematics as as far as the power is concerned. Nothing a multi meter can't fix i guess... ![]() Last edited by FeRaL; 24-July-03 at 02:57 PM.. | ||

| Like already said, its pretty simple to figure out. Just extend your leads to where you want them located, and use the orig. switch or another momentary on switch. I had mine ran all the way to the keyboard on an old rig, which was a hassle to deal with in the long run. | ||

| "Will hardwiring a new switch to the board of the CD-ROM / DVD Drive stop the normal eject button on the faceplate from working correctly??" "I don't see why it would at all. Just don't push them both at the same time." How the button works is by connecting the 2 wires together, so there should be no problems. Now, connecting another LED may cause a problem, but CMOS chips can easily handle several normal LEDs, so the chance of actually getting a problem is very low. | ||
