Default Serial Cable powered flashlight

I am wanting to make a flashlight like the one seen here http://www.pcapex.com/modules.php?s=...ticle&artid=79 , but I dont want to use a valuable USB port so i want to make one out of a serial port cable. Is this feasable? Are there and steps that I should change or skip from the usb powered flashlight?

Serial cable, as I remember, probably won't have the power. You'll probably want to go USB.

You never see a serial optical mouse for a reason...

5 volts but they dont have enough amps. USB has 5 volts with tons of amps to spare. I believe its 5 volts @ 5 amps if you have a USB hub, otherwise 250mA or something like that. Serial cables only provide 5 volts @ a mere 50-250mA I beleive. A 5volt LED would run off of a serial port but thats about it. For an actual light you'd have to use a USB port.

OK....I have my Logitech MX300 optical using the serial adapter and it works just fine. I plugged it into a USB slot and it didn't make any difference. So, what difference does it make?

Unless you own an olllllllllld computer like my school does. Half the computers in my school use Serial BALL mice, they suckass and the computers are slow, but they can do word and have a laggy mouse pointer in Windows 98.

Why not try a PS/2 port? What type of amps do those provide?
