| I am wanting to make a flashlight like the one seen here http://www.pcapex.com/modules.php?s=...ticle&artid=79 , but I dont want to use a valuable USB port so i want to make one out of a serial port cable. Is this feasable? Are there and steps that I should change or skip from the usb powered flashlight? | ||

| 5 volts but they dont have enough amps. USB has 5 volts with tons of amps to spare. I believe its 5 volts @ 5 amps if you have a USB hub, otherwise 250mA or something like that. Serial cables only provide 5 volts @ a mere 50-250mA I beleive. A 5volt LED would run off of a serial port but thats about it. For an actual light you'd have to use a USB port. | ||

OK....I have my Logitech MX300 optical using the serial adapter and it works just fine. I plugged it into a USB slot and it didn't make any difference. So, what difference does it make? | ||||||||||||||||||||
