millivolts. 1000mV = 1 Volt. Thus, 250mV = 0.25 Volts.

Yeah no problem. Glad you learned something. That's what were here for. And just for your information if you need it; ATA cables use 5 Volts (5000mV). SATA cables use 0.25 Volts (250mV).

We may have had a missunderstanding, I am talking about serial cables that go to monitors and printers not Serial ATA cables. .25 volts is SATA cables or Serial cables, or both?

Serial, Parallel Port, IDE, PS2 etc. are 5 Volts. Serial ATA are 0.25 volts. Sorry missunderstanding there.

lol It's ok im glad i caught that though. The reason I questioned it was the fact that there are converting cables between usn and serial cables so i figured they should be on the same voltage, and the fact taht you mentioned ATA cables when that was no where near what i was talking about.

V4mp, Volts ARE metric. As are calories. But, always remember,

m=1/1000
c=1/100
k=1000

Your easiest place to get voltage is going to be directly from a molex connector. Then I'd try USB next which will give you up to 500mA (500 milliamps or half of one amp) at 5V.

What's this project for anyway?

Flash light like the one in the How-to's in the articles, so i decided instead of using a valuable USB port i could use a serial port instead, but it turns out not enough amps.
