Game port to USB?

I'm being graciously given a game pad by my uncle, who recently upgraded to a USB pad. I have no game port whatsoever,though, and to avoid spending money, would like to know if I could cut up one of my existing cables and make it USB. I solder better than average, and have NO fear of cutting something up, but I wondered if it were possible...

Gamepad's have like 14 pins, USB has 4. I have no idea how you could solder them together. Try searching for a converter, there might be one, but I don't think that, even with excellent soldering skills, you could do it

Oh well, want a modded pad, do an Xbox...

I believe it's the yellow cord that is the one not used with the xbox. I just dunno what to do about drivers.

It autodetects, if you get it right and have XP.

there is a converter you can buy to convert a gamepad to usb. I actually have one. It's really up to the drivers for the gamepad on weather it will work or not once you convert it.

you could get a second sound card for use purely as a gameport for less than that

You could buy a USB game pad for that price and a pretty decent one if you added some money to that.... I think.

I just bought a usb starter kit from Microcenter that came with a gamepad with game port (go figure) with a usb adapter. Oh, yea, it's $10.
