| I make ATA33/66 cables like this all the time. Works for floppies, too. I split the plastic between either every or every other wire, and wrap them in tape-high temp tape, to be exact-like duct tape, but thinner. I have an ATA 133 cable for my GF's new rig, which is nearing completion. I'd like to do it the same way, but is it safe? The wires are a lot smaler, and closer together. Would I need to use a razor blade to separate them with this cable? BTW, when hers is finished, I'll post it too. | ||

| I found the cheap ATA133 cables (like you would get at London Drugs) easier to round than the ones that come with motherboards. The plastic is beefier and splits less easy. I do exactly what Outcast said, but I use a safety pin. Another option is to fold the cable instead of seperating the wires. Fold it so that in cross section it would look like this: /\/\ or even /\/\/ | ||

| Then again, I've never rounded my own cables... I won one rounded cable from a LAN party and its annoying as hell to move out of the way of the airflow, and my other cable is hidden behind the mobo tray, only peeking out to find the ide port on the HDD and the mobo.. | ||

| Thanks. Unfortunately, this is a mobo-supplied cable, but you think it would still work? If it were my rig, I'd do one just for the hell of it and if it f***ed up, I would fix it. But, my girlfriend, while learning, is coming from the depths of n00bishness. She won't know a bad cable from a hole in the ground. So, ergo, I make sure it works. That's why I'm triple-checking. My peace of mind about her computer. | ||
