| Alright, i don't know the name of it, but here goes my best shot at descriping it. You know the black 3 prong connector where you plug your power cable into the psu and on some monitors?? I need one of those and tried to take one off a broken monitor but it was soldered onto the circuit board. So, has anyone ever seen one for sale, or know how to make one?? I have a power cord for my water pump and don't want to have to cut a hole in the case and run the cord out of the hole. I would like the cord to stay in the case and just have that 3 prong connector in the side of my case so that i can disconnect the power cord to my pump. understand?? | ||

| I used one of these on mine. http://www.cooltechnica.com/Merchant..._Code=Electric You might be able to pick up just the receptical at Fry's Electronics or radio shack. | ||

| thats not really what i was asking for. I don't want a way to turn the pump on or off, honestly i want it on all the time so when i start the computer the block is still cold. Look at the back of you computer, see where the power cord is plugged in? That's what I want, not the power cord, but what the cord is plugged into. I want this so that when i move the computer i can unplug the power cord to the pump in the same way that i would do it to the computer. edit:: I guess they're called AC sockets. | ||

| Here's a link to a power cable extention that has both ends. You could cut the cable and use the end you want. If the pump is external and you want it to run all the time why not just plug it into a surge protector? http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...443&pfp=BROWSE | ||

| This ought to do: http://www.jameco.com/cgi-bin/ncomme...s=503;528;782; And the page has many like appearing friends! I scored mine out of an old dead AT PSU. Can't you just desolder the one off the dead monitor and use it? Last edited by putwig; 25-May-03 at 03:27 PM.. | ||

| Umm...an receptical IS a ac socket. It's part of the pump relay switch package. Just thought you might have a use for it. You can order just a socket online here. http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bi...915&type=store Leaving the pump on all the time will make absolutely zero difference in temperature. I won't be any cooler, ambient is ambient. The only advantage of leaving a pump on is you avoid the cavitation when it starts up. And the impellor will last longer. But you lose on the lifespan of the motor. | ||

| to answer your question hojo, you don't want to leave your power cord for your psu hard wired all the time, you want to be able to unplug it so when you move the computer you don't have cords dangleing and tripping you. putwig, AntiM That is exactly what i am looking for. I guess i could try to desolder it, but the whole base of the ac socket is attached on the board. I'll give it a shot before i order that piece. On another note, If i can get a hold of an ac outlet how do hook up the power lines?? Last edited by jhoop2002; 26-May-03 at 02:43 AM.. | ||

| Direct Cool Hoe | JHOOP, PM me with an address and I'll send you one of mine... What if you ever want to test the pump outside the case?Did you wire on a power supply cord to your pump? as in cut the wall plug end off and wire that end to your pump? | yes and no. the ac outlet that you find on the back of your computer is what i wanted. But i want to take the power cord from my pump, hook it up the back end of the ac outlet, and then have the ac outlet in the side of my case. So then i would plug a normal power cord (just like your computer power cord) into the outlet. that way when i have to move the case i can unplug everything and no wires are hanging from my case. ZENNZZO, clean out your mailbox so i can send you a pm. | ||

| Those relay kits come with one of those AC plug peices, and they do have some added functionality. I just leave my pump on all the time. This has nothing to do with cooling though Jhoop, it just is less hard on the pump IMHO. I think starting up and stopping is hard on the impeller.
True lokie, but I get the same effect by plugging my PC and my pump into the same surge protected power bar. My PC won't turn on unless the power bar is turned on, and if the power bar is turned on ....... the pump is running. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| i couldn't sleep last night and since i was up i decided to try to take the ac outlet off of the circuit board and eventually got it off. Now I am wondering if i cut too much of it off. I don't think so, but there were some things that went through the plastic of the ac outlet and were soldered onto the board. I don't know if those were nessary. On the back of the plug there are 3 pieces of metal, 2 wires and then some other piece of metal that i can't really describe. Each piece of metal is in the corresponding place on the back, where the prongs are on the front (make sense, i know its kinda confusing). I will look around for my digi camera, but in the mean time can anyone tell me if this will work? and also (just to make sure) how to cut the power cord from the pump and solder it to the back of the ac outlet. | ||
