Default DFI Lanparty Paint Proj.

Well this was just an Impulse mod after I saw A picture in the galery here from another Member. I wish I could find the pic again but I cant. So if you are that guy, thx for the idea.

Started by A late night trip for paint. Courtesy of Good Ol' Walmart! I Just purchased Silver Rust-oleum Bright Coat Metallic finish. As well as A clear enamel. I covered all of the PCI slots and the RAM, AND CPU sockets. Also, the IDE, SATA and Power plugs.
Unfortunatley, My camera went dead and i didnt get the Prep Shots.

I chose not to Paint the Pci slots because i liked the Contrast of the UV yellow and silver.
After Applying 3 coats and a clear Glossy enamel. Came out pretty nice after I peeled off the tape.

The only thing that turned out To my dissapointment was the 120mm Cpu Fan. I think I'll put a few more coats on some other time. So I put the Mobo back in the case and it looked Very Nice. I also decided to paint my Arctic Silencer on my video card. Only yhe Cooler though. I didnt paint any of the card.

As you can see I also painted the drive cages. Not sure I like the yellow yet, but It'll do for now. So here is the after and before .

Ok, before you start, I would suggest making sure you Cover everything Up and double check it twice. I have seen this mod done in a few forums and its worked most of the time. IT IS A RISK! So dont take my word that it Will work. Mine Worked without flaw. My processor is overclocked from 1.8 to 2.4 and I noticed no change in temperature. It took about 3 P>O>S>T tests to get up and going but then it jumped to life. Back to normal and working like a charm. O.K. I do have One confession..... I painted My SB Audigy 2 Value.........It doesnt work anymore. So if you have an external sound card, I would not suggest painting it. So yes this is a risky mod and you have to be a Little crazy to attempt it but when its finished and if it's done successfully, IT LOOKS FANTASTIC! I used this thread as a slight reference. So good luck. Sorry its not more descriptive, but this is my first Log of a mod ive ever done. So have fun and Happy Modding.

Very nice work Bro!

I noticed on the fan, that the paint seems to have puddled up around the edges.

Here is a tip, when painting odd plastic surfaces that have not been "Roughed up" on the suface by sanding, it is best to make the first few coats very thin...just "Fog" it, almost like a dry spray. This wil add a bit of texture to the smooth surface and lets the following coats "Grab"

Let it dry between coats for at least 30 minutes going slowly, gradually building it up. The last coat should be a little thicker to get the gloss up, but don't go crazy.

Thanks For The Tip! I was wondering why it was doing that. Awesome. Ill have to throw another coat on it and see what happens. Thx Again

Find an Art or CAD student and have him make you a pattern for a stencil of your own, something "Custom" and not cookie cutter

True That! LOL! Yeah fortunatley it worked out ok. the only thing i noticed is that my motherboards cpu temp meter is off a bit. i had to use an different temp gauge. And i painted everything that was yellow silver and it looks a lot better. I did, However Fry My SB Audigy 2 Value! LOL! it somehow didnt like the paint. Oh wel, it seems like the nforce audio is doing better anyway.

Ok got the newer pics, Got rid of the Yellow! God i hated that! LOL!

So i did the drives as well. Also a success. no prob's Yet! Dont think there will be any either. Still overclocked and still running strong. Need to touch up the paint in some places though. Just ordered a White Light Coolermaster Cold cathode kit to replace the blue. As well as Some Silver Cable Sleeving for all the wires from FrozenCpu! Good deal too. Ill post the rest when the stuff arrives. Thx!

You should sand the paint on the drive cage there...other than that it looks good. What does it look like when it glows?
