Default Video Card Had to be Modded!

So I was typing a reply to a thread when I smelled something burning. I ignored it, but about 1 minute later my screen dropped out. So I opened R2D2 up and found out that my Radeon 9800XT fan had stopped spinning. I force shut down R2 and took out the Video Card. The fan came off easy.

It looks like the connections in the fan are burnt up.

Since I don't have another fan for the Video card I have to improvise with a 40mm fan.

I'm sure this is actually a good thing. As long as my card wasn't damaged, I'll get a lot better cooling.

Know what? I did exactly the same thing almost. The stock cooler on my GFs GeForce3 gave up so I took an everflow 80mm silent fan and mounted on top of the plastic bracket that holds the fan on top of the heatsink of an AMD stock cooler. This gave me a bit of distance for the air to spread out more evenly over the heatsink, and the plastic bracket just snaps on with one leg under the heatsink and the other leg over the top of the card. The heatsink went from hot to room temperature

I know a company which sells heatsinks & 40mm fans for GPU's.... frankly... yours looks better!
Could you overclock the core a bit higher than previously?
