Default Anvil Case Mod - Update

(Issue resolved) Thank you for the help. Progress pics below.

Hi everyone,

I took an Anvil case and converted it into a rack. What I am trying to do is light it up without the use of a computer.

The hardware I am troubleshooting
1u PSU (200w)
4 120mm Antech Fans
2 Cold Cathod rods

Ive added a toggle switch to the PS_ON and GND pins to turn the unit on and off. When I flip the switch everything lights up then goes dead.

If I add a harddrive, it will power up and stay on. This make me think the issue is with load.

So is there a way to NOT use a harddrive? Ideally I would like to use as little space as possible.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Pins 14 and 15 (Green and Black)

After testing with another PSU... you were correct. Can't believe I didnt test that!

Thank you very much.

i'm not surprised. i knew you had the switch on the right wires so the only other practical reason could of been the PSU. glad its working now man

Default The look

When I am finished with the case I will post some pics of the case. Hopefully in the next few days.

If it turns out, I have a 2nd case that I will post a HOWTO when I mod that one.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

Thankfully the company I work for was throwing these away. This case started out heavily damaged and in need of alot of TLC. I replaced a bit of the hardware and gut the case..

This is how it started...

Here are some pics of my work in progress

Hopefully by the weekend I will be ready to mount some servers (a mod project all in its own). If anyone is intrested, I will write a HOWTO for this. I have an extra case left.

UPDATE!

It's been a while, forgot about me huh? Here is an update...

The fan controler was DOA so I needed to RMA the origiginal.
HATED the faceplate so I built a new one.
Moved my gaming rig to an Antec 4U case.

Half-ass worklog
http://forums.homelessproductions.com/viewtopic.php?t=8

To do list:
Cable management OUTSIDE of the case
Cap the design in the front window with something on the ouside of the case
Figure out how to get the crap off the outside of the case*

*Ive tried:
Goo Gone
Hand Lotion
Rubbing Alcohol
Windex

If you have suggestions let me know.

But here is the almost finished product. More pics at the above link. More to come.

Side question:

As you can see the desk is glass. If I wanted to light the desk up with LED's. Do I need to drill into the desk, or can I make a mount for them on the edge of the desk?

I'm thinking the latter ... finding a 3/4" (guess) square bit of plexi that long might be difficult (or at least expensive), I'm thinking a bit of wood, drill holes, paint black, fit LEDs & hold in with hot glue, a bit of convoluted tube to hide the wiring. If you wanted to be flash you could use difference colour leds on separate switches, if you wanted to be _really_ flash you could have red, green, blue & white separately controlled by rheostats so you could have any colour light you liked

Nice work on the rig btw .... really suprised you didn't repaint it though

I actually did think about painting it. I was concerned that the laminant wouldnt take the paint or would flake so I decided to stay with the worn look

How easy would it be to dismantle the case one panel at a time? Self adhesive plastic sheet might be the way to go ... would look good if you could get some fake carbon fibre
