Question led's ??

I'm looking for some blue led's to swap out with some of my indicator leds, but all the leds i've found are either the wrong color or they are just too dang bright ; performance-pcs.com has some really nice ones bu they are about 1500 mcd to 2100 mcd and thats just blinding when shining in your face. I really can't point them anywhere else of block some of the light like on my 2gig HDD jump and my surround sound volume control.

any ideas?

or isoleds (I think is what its called)

You could always use a larger resistor to limit current.

I replaced my keyboard keys with blue LED's from lsdiodes.com, and as you described, they were blinding! So I took them out again, and used a black Sharpie to "tint" each LED. It dimmed them down several notches; now they look perfect.

EDIT: The resistor suggestion works equally well; you could even get a potentiometer and have adjustable brightness (like for daytime and night).

If whats for sale these days is too bright for you applications, use a higher rated resistor to lower the overall power going to it.

What about sanding down the outside of it with some heavier grit paper, and giving it a diffused effect limiting the "glare" effect when looking straight on. If u go on ebay u can find all sorts of early day LED's that are very low mcd, below 1000mcd's

A file can do that, but the dremel does it better. Just cut off the end.

that's a good idea, except that they are not a pretty when limited in this way

I'll try the sharpy method, but I have very limited space in the volume module for my sound and my jump drive

Yup. As I mentioned, they're quite blinding. Until you use the Sharpie. So if you don't wanna use a Sharpie, I'd hit up eBay (like Avalonthas said) or someplace like Action Electronics:

How's this for dim? They have 3mm Blue diffused LED's with brightness ratings as low as 26mcd.
http://www.action-electronics.com/leds.htm#Bottomofpage

P.S. C'mon, the pus thing was funny! And yes, using the Edit button is just common courtesy on forums.

I just tried a sharpie on my jump and it worked ok, but maybe I'll try the sandpaper method with a resistor to dim it and difuse the light so it looks good

If it doesnt work, just grab the already diffused ones like mentioned above. Diffused LED's (atleast green/yellow/red) are ultra cheap, im not sure about blue because i have never used them before, but i bought a pack of 1000 of yellow, red, and green from some hong kong place, for 30CAD bucks total, shipped, so it only costed me 1 cent a piece, and i use them all the time at my computer repair business for HDD's, activity lights etc, and they all 25-30mcd's. I am prolly gonna look for a bulk pack of blue ones soon as people ask for them time to time, and i wouldnt mind having them in stock for personal mods.

You can use a potentiometer to find a good brightness and use a multi-meter to read the resistance, then buy a resistor to match as close as possible. Perhaps even blue plastic wrap could work.

I wasn't intending it to be taken as a mock.
