Default LCD screen wiring/where to buy?

Ok, for my computer, I think it would be awesome to do an LCD panel either in the window, or as a dual 5 3/4" display. Unfortunatly, I can't seem to find just a raw 5 or 6 inch LCD panel for less than about $100, and I really don't think I will be able to spend that much.

The other thing is, well, I can't seem to find a place that shows how to wire the monitor to use... Whatever. I have found something that will let me wire a simple display screen to the printer port, but I'm talking about a TFT full color 6 inch LCD monitor that will display... Random things that I like on it. Anyway, any advice would be great, links are cool too

Thanks.

Usually those kinds of monitors just have 4 wires, 2 for power and 2 for video. Many times the wires are marked on the board.

If you have the extra connections on your vid card, you get an LCD module from ComputerGeeks.com for $47+s&h. It has an RCA In, but they have adapters for S-video out...

The above screen is only 4 in.. oh well

Ok, but this wouldn't interfear with my 19 incher, would it? srry, newb to the dual monitor stuff here... hehe. I want it to display a picture, stats, maybe even like the windows media player visualizations that I love sooooo much, (or maybe a computer on here that I envy... ) Yeah, you get the idea. my Grahpics card has the S-video out on it, and I'm sure I could find something like that. Sooo, would it run on 12 volts? or would I have to run another cable out of the computer to an adapter or something? It will be a while before I'll be able to do this anyway, but I want to see about doing it. Anyway, thanks a bunch guys!

*EDIT* kratos, is this what you're referring to? http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...&cpc=SCH&srm=0

to use a color display that is stand alone (i.e with a little computer of its on on the back, not video) you will need some special software and it should have a harness that goes to serial or parallel or whatever. it definately wont cost less than $100 because those things are usually for industrial integrated things and has a computer on it.
go for a video display for like a car.
either way make sure your LCD has the contoller board and a driver board for video or has a controller that has the graphics driver and interface and is not just a bare panel with backlight. in fact i reccomend you try to see the LCD you want in person operating so you can see whether or not its a piece of crap. and never buy a STN color display.

Indeed, 'tis Also, it may run on the 12v rail of your PSU, I wouldn't know, as I haven't gotten one yet... But, technically, it should.

The last time I looked, you could get a replacement laptop LCD off eBay for around $35 or so. Depends on how big you're looking at, though.

Yes, that's what I ment, just an LCD with the graphics driver, not a stand alone. But, it will be the same as my monitor, just another smaller one, right?

Lol, I doubt that will fit in front of my computer case. Thanks though, I saw them.

Lol, it's probably true, the prices have been slowly dripping downwards for the past couple of years. Plasmas too, I guess that means Tech prices are going down!!! yay!

Anyway, do all ya'll think that the little $47 one would do the trick?

Most of the time you can't drive a laptop LCD from a desktop video card, even from DVI.

Yeah, it should, if you look at the fine print on the webpage it says "This is not a monitor" but, we can disregard that...

Up here in Canada i read the business news everyday and about 3 weeks ago they had quite a few articles for about a week on the LCD market. Essentially (i dont know if it also applies to the usa) LCD sales were huge in the past 2 years, with every quarter seeing gains, howevere the most recent quarter, sales have dropped dramatically, so a price shift is thought to be on its way so im pretty sure prices will be falling quite deliciously in the next little while. You should see if u can grab an older LCD, 15 inches and below, strip it down to the bare bones, and stick it on the side of ur case. Ive seen it done before and its quite cool. Ive seen gaming rigs that were only a case and fully portable. But the screen was small as hell at 15 inches lol. But for ur purposes it should do great, and u can pick em up for dirt cheap. All u would need is a video card that supports dual monitors, or u can buy a cheapo one for non gaming purposes.
