| As some may know, Im a Trance-a-holic and I love to Dj and Dance. I've been looking into for sometime sound sensitive strobe lights. I know they make sound sensitive cathodes for Computer cases so I'd like to make some strobes similarly. I've found some directions on how to make a strobe here http://www.aaroncake.net/circuits/strobe.htm Now I'd like to make some with blue lights turn on to low frequencies ie: Bass, Drums. And some red/green/white ones that go off for higher frequencies, ie: High hats, snares, cymbols (sp). Does anyone know where I can get the parts to make these and how I should go about hooking them up? | ||

| i wont say i am an electronics wiz, but my idea would be to use a electret microphone and amp, to drive a relay, wich in turn on the strobe light. but this would only make it sound acrivated, i am not sure how to make it sensitve to a specific sound although i think a capacitor with a variable resistor might work. here is a schematic for a electret mic amp\ linky Last edited by Cpl Rampage; 01-October-05 at 08:43 PM.. | ||

| you will need to modify your strobe circuit to have a manual trigger which replaces the neon light. i suggest an opto isolated triac since it will handle the ~90 volts. (when the neon would flash at around 90 volts when it ionizes it triggers the SCR and the strobe goes off) you now need your audio source which can be a mic + pre or your audio signal. that signal will go through a filter which can be low or high pass or band pass which you can build to be adjustable to the freqs you want to be your trigger noise. that signal goes to a comparator circuit which is also adjustable and basicly when your signal reaches past a refrence level the comparator will output current. that signal will go to the trigger and your strobe will flash. you will need to modify the charge circuit so it charges faster since the neon light is no longer what controls flashes. you also dont want the tigger always on unless you want a short lived HID lamp. useing high flux leds can be brighter than a cheap xenon flash. useing a modified external camera flash would also work since many of them has a manual flash test button. | ||

| Apex Advanced Techie | well right now im making a setup with 6 cathodes outside my computer case that are around my desk and stuff, that are sound activated via a Sunbeam Sound Module. It has a sensitivity knob, so u could grab that and mod it so it works with ur strobes or whatever, then for bass, u set it to low sensitivity, and for the high hats etc, u set it to high sensitivity on another module. Maybe there are similar better modules out there too | |
