This one goes out to all of you fly ass Google pimps who happen to be looking . . .
And yes, I did a search before putting this up, so please don't bother linking me to the posts about gamePORT converters . . . definately NOT what I'm about with this question . . .
I was surfing around and found a
link to making a converter to hook your N64 pad to your gameport on the
pc, including a patched driver . . . So, I got to thinking, there should be a fairly easily done DIY to do the same, but for the USB port . . . and why not for the PSX pad?
I can find plenty of commercial adapters . . . most of which only use the base d-pad and buttons, not even coming close to the analog sticks and rumble functions . . .
And the DIY plans I've found all go through the game port, which I'd like to avoid (as I don't have one on my system) if I can.
So, here's the question (Finally, right?): Can you help me find some good resources on building a DIY adapter so I can take an off the shelf Playstation pad and hook it up to my USB port?
(Essentially, I'm thinking it'll involve me taking the female end off an extension cord for the playstation controller, running that into a project box where the signal conversion circuits will be housed, and then out to the USB end that'll have to get off one of the multitude of cables I have around the house.)
From what I've seen, it's very likely that I'll have to use an external power source to power the rumble feature, but the Gameport adaptor plans I've seen lay out exactly how to do that . . . But, if there's plans for how to get the power off the USB port, that'd be cool, too.
Anywho, I'm off to continue my search. I'll update if I manage to find anything.
PS - Any links to plans for any of the other game pad styles (Gamecube or SNES, for example) to USB would also kick much ass. I'd like to have a selection available if the PSX adapter pans out.
