Cathodes for my desk?

Hey, I am at college and I have a few cathodes and I was wondering if I can put them under my desk, is there a USB to molex converter at like radio shack...all I have is a laptop so thats why I can use regular molex connectors, plus I dont want to take it apart because I need the warranty. Any ideas would be helpful, thanks.

if you got a spare PSU lying around, you could just use that. you could have them on even when your laptop isn't on too. dunno if a usb port will provide enough power. aren't usb ports 5v while cathodes use 12v?

I do have a spare PSU, but it doesnt have a switch...I plug it in and the fan goes on and the cathodes blink once then it shuts off, it works in computers but it needs something to turn it on...

easy fix.... go by a switch.... on off 2 prong ... 1 prong put a wire on it and run it to the green wire on the psu.. on the second prong run it to the black negtive wire next to it... boom now it will stay on when u flip the switch (ie make the connection) ... or if you are lazy and want it on all the time... mr paperclip will do the trick

this is how i have my second psu in my computer set up

Yup, thats exactly how i have this set up.

I found something from another forum, I took a 12V output AC adaptor and hooked it to the wires, and it works now...woot

i was going to say that but there was other ways with the power supply

I set up some cathodes (Several different colors) for a friend. I used a 12V AC adapter and a multi-position switch. Now he can use whatever color fits his mood (oddly enough, he prefers blue).
