| Not long ago when helping my buddy clean out his PC shop, he offered me a funky-looking TV. He explained that it had a built-in 8-bit original Nintendo, so I took it thinking it might be fun for the kids. The downside is, I have no controllers or game carts to see if it even works, though I've been told it does. It's also seen some rough days, the front cover is missing and the top appears a bit warped from being too close to a heat source. I'll be hitting some thrift stores this weekend to see if I can snag some controllers and carts, but the thing that gets me is...it's just begging for a mod. I'm not sure what I want to do with it, so I thought I'd post and see if any ideas come up, or if anyone might just want to take it off my hands. I stored it due to not being able to use it yet, but it looks just like this one...only rougher: There's a bit more info on this site. Last edited by Wordbiker; 10-September-05 at 09:07 AM.. | ||

| It would be awesome to do a retro super mario paint job, or do like a classic nentendo collage. Yeah, I can see how that would be begging for a mod. Could you possibly make a NES game cartridge rack/tower on the side or somthing like that? That would make it worthy of a small space. but, that's just my $.02. Good luck man! | ||

| Hmmm....Not a bad idea Max. I found a few sites that carry all the peripherals for the NES, including the light pistol, etc. Might be cool to use some of them to hide the heat damaged area. Another idea was to mod in a MAME machine. With an emulator and a HD, I could have it play thousands of games. Still like your classic Mario theme idea though. Bright colors, graphics... that seems to fit something intended as a kids' toy. For now I'll have to see if the darn thing works. If not, I do have my buddy to fall back on. It's the same buddy I got my Karate Champ arcade machine from, and he has resources and skills for all kinds of stuff. | ||

| I keeping with a MAME theme, and since the outsides are all gnarly anyway, maybe you should do a baby arcade cabinet project. Plywood, t-moulding, repro arcade graphics ... http://arcadecontrols.com/arcade.htm -MF | ||

| Yeah, that would be cool. I've always had a soft spot for galaga, but that's just me. The class of 1981 themed arcade system is awesome I though. But, with the mario theme, yeah, it is full of bright colors, that would definatly be something a kid would love. Anyway, yeah, good luck. | ||

| Well, if you can't find controllers or games (yeah right) for it, let me know, I have one that the box itself was dropped and doesn't work, but still have about a dozen games and two conrollers that I have no use for. Let me see, right off the top of the head: NES Baseball stars Ultra Metal Gear Ultima Silent Service Scherezade (sp??) Others as I remember which box they're in. | ||
