| Well, you all know me, and know i havnt done a whole lot of actual modding in my time here... Cut window, sleved stuff, a clean and matching case with lots of goodies, thats about it. But i do have a bit of a backlog of small projects that ive done that i might as well post. This is gonna take a couple of posts since i kept pretty detailed pics. Gonna see if i can remember all this since some of these were done more than a year ago. Alrighty, here goes. You've probably all seen these mice, i think i got them from xoxide 3/$18 or something like that. Heres the packaging And here's it compared next to the microsoft "blue" mouse. Also, ill explain these a little later, but heres a small lego set, Boba Fett, a gamorean and han in carbonite. And heres the man himself, Boba Fett, in minifig form. By now some of you may know where im going with this, as its an old standard in the modding world. Heres some LEDs from LSDiodes, true green and blue for the various projects. And heres all three mice stock with the middle one powered up. | ||

| Alrighty, heres the red bottom piece, pretty standard, as you can see i dremeled off the raised part on one of them. I eventually did that for all three. Heres the top piece of one of them, masking tape over it. Heres the inside shot. The most essential modding tool ever, silicone rtv. Since i couldnt exactly fabricate a new piece, or get a little piece of plexi in the hole well, i just masked it off and filled it in with the transluscent caulk. Heres the bottom piece with the taillight replaced with a blue LED. And heres the bottom LED which i also replaced with a nice blue one. Heres the whole thing put together. I did two of these, one for me and one for my friend. Im still using mine, for CS and everything, even though my primary pointer is still my intelimouse trackball. I assume hes still using his, since it matched his black Lian Li with blue lights pretty well. And heres the same mouse in the dark. Thats all for now, i've gotta eat dinner, shower and head over to my GFs. I guess her mom wants me around more, since my gf is always coming over here. I'll post the rest of the pics tonight when i get back. | ||

| Thanks everybody. Well, back from the GFs house, gotta freshly made burrito thingy and a mt dew and ready to post the other two mice. Othe two you say, i only had three up there and i said i made two of the blue ones. Well, here goes the one that my roomate commisioned for the black and green rig i built him (which i need to get pics of!).Same deal as before, replaced the red tail light with true green, i also replaced the scroll wheel light with a little green LED. Now some of you may have never seen these kind of LEDs up close, i hadn't untill i got my hands on these. They are green. Not like the yellowish green thats probably the stock power light on your case, but greeeeen. I love em. Again, same deal as before, replaced the sensor LED with a green one. Ill talk more about this a little later on. Heres it snapped back together temporarily just to get a look at the sweet greeness. Baby got back. Same deal as before, cut off the red plastic and filled it in with the trasluscent silicone. Alright, heres where we take a deviation from what i did with the blue ones. Most people in the modding comunity have probably run into at least one of metkus mods. Lets just say that he is "teh shiznit", and from this point on i take no credit for the ideas in this mod. Id also like to add that i've also done another one of his mods and it turned out great. You can see my version of his xbox combicable... here. My roomate liked this a lot being able to use the xbox controler for THPS3 on his PC. The controller drivers need some work though, no diagonals. Also if you look at his page, you'll see how many of his mods have been ahem, 'adopted' by companies over the years. These mods especially have clear scroll wheels stock. ![]() Anywho... If by now you dont know what im talking about from this, and the fett man minifig from above... One day my roomate ran across metkus classic cryo mod, and he wanted one. But since he didnt have any skills and i was building him a rig anyway, he had me make one. If you've taken a look at the cryo mod, you can see what i'm doing just from the pics, but ill still explain it a bit. Heres the top piece of the mouse, and just the top piece, with a small scrap of plexi, i think its for a picture frame, ontop. Ive already shaped it some with the heatgun. At this point, i'd also like to add, i love the pepermint smell you get when cutting plexi, mmm. Heres the fett man behind the plexi with the light from the mouse. Sweet shot. I also just realized that i just watched RotJ over at my gfs before, and fett went out like a bitch. At least he came back and was kicking ass in the books... Heres the shaped plexi cut to fit, and the top piece trimmed. Heres the body of the mouse with the window cut out. As you can see, like with most optical mice, theres pretty much nothing inside. Which is what makes these and other sweet mice mods possible. Heres the board of the mouse. As you can see, now theres not one, but two tail lights. These will be contorted around to illuminate what i want inside the mouse. And heres the mouse half put back together again. | ||

| Didn't think i was done, do you? Only 10 pics per post and imageshack can lick my nuts, so heres some more comin'atcha. Here i glued in some small pieces of anti static bag to better reflect the LEDs inside the mouse. Heres boba, an ass fulla glue, in his final resting place. Unlike metkus mod i left him intact in case one day anyone wants to retrieve the minifig from his stasis. Heres the top piece again, with the plexi installed. You might notice i didnt smooth the glue or anthing. I also took sand paper to the underside of the plexi and didnt mind the slight bubbling i got from the heat gun. Its supposed to look like hes flash frozen in there. ![]() Top and bottom, side by side. All put together, and compared to the relativly stock version of the mouse. I think i did a damn good job getting a round concave piece of plexi flush with the mouse for a n00b. Lights on, Boba Fett entombed. And here she is in all her glory. This mod took some doing, but it was also a lot of fun. And it really impresses people who see my roomates mouse. Only problem. I said before, id talk more about having replaced the sensor LED with a green one? For whatever reason, and i guess other people havnt had this problem with other color LEDs, or even IR or UV LEDs for their mice, maybe its just a cheap sensor, but the mouse will only track on certain colored surfaces. I dont remember which colors exactly, but it kinda sucks. So ends the project entitled "Han's Revenge". Alrighty, one mouse left. ... | ||

| Last one, then im off to bed to await more praise in the morning. This is probably one of the crazier ideas, i probably came up with it while drunk... So you know those mice with a built in fan to cool your hand while uh, 'gaming'? Another idea shamelesly stolen from the great metku... But yeah, a while ago i picked up one on the cheap from frozenCPU. Props to those guys again for helping me with my lost order last summer. Really great customer service. But yeah. I didn't get any durring pics of this mod, since it took me all of five minutes. Basically, i cracked it open, just two small screws in the front, and a kinda hinge in back. Popped the fan off the motor, drilled all the way through it, and put it on upside down, to effectivly reverse the fan so its blowing downward. Know where i'm going with this? Then i buttoned it back up, slit a piece of i think 3/4" shrink tubing in half, and put a strip of electrical tape along it. This i put around the bottom edge of the mouse, making a little rubber skirt for it. Now what has fans blowing down, and rubber skirts around the bottom? Hovercraft! Thats right, i present to you, the hovermouse. Now the thing is, i'm not actually sure how well it works. I mean, with the skirt on it stands up on its own, i think i should try it with thinner, more flexible rubber than heat shrink. It does move around pretty easily with it turned on, better than with it off, but again, i'm not sure how much lift i'm actualy getting from the little fan since the skirts so stiff. I also probably need to dremel out some more vents in the bottom of the mouse. Also, the tracking gets a little sketchy, since its about a half inch away from the surface. But its really more a proof of concept thing than something for day to day use. ![]() Here come ths pics. Angle. SIde. Front Angle, powered up. Bottom. G'night everybody. ![]() | ||

| Excellent mouse modding! I was tinkering with an old scroll mouse a while back, took the HSF off a fried GeForce TI200, got power to the fan, and was going to hook it up where the palm would be (Oh, that hasn't been done before!), but got too bored with it and quit. Then, I tried to hook up LEDs with no resistors off a 5-volt source and they just kept blowing. Couldn't find anything smaller, so I gave up. Keep up the good work! | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Ha ha, thats my mouse. It does kinda suck that it only works on certain color mouse pads. He should get around to trying it with the yellower green LEDs. He also needs to get around to changing the LEDs in my vantec nexus from blue to green to match everything else... | |

| I think it uses magnetic things. those little powerful ones. like a +mouse pad and +mouse the would go against each other right making it "float"? **Edit: fool me once shame on me, If u fool me again u wont have my buisness anymore. ![]() Last edited by musclecars&computers; 18-September-06 at 05:45 PM.. | ||
