| What do you think of this etching? Should I keep the letters outlined or fill them in? I think it looks cool outlined. Any opinions/comments are appreciated! LED's courtesy of Dragonmodz.net ( I bought them...its not like they gave them to me for free..lol) I think its bad ass...But its far from what I want it to be..Its only a practice one. They dont have smaller etching bits than 105 do they? And to get the LED like I did, Just cut off the end part (the lense). Last edited by Nerdz; 02-August-05 at 09:53 PM.. Reason: forgot an "O" | ||

| Wow, you definatly have some dremel skills. I'm afraid to use a dremel on plexi after seeing what happens when it runs across the metal when it catches... God what an awful feeling that is lol.. I guess I will have to etch sooner or later, but I wish there was a pencil sized dremel to do it with. | ||

Pencil style dremel tools are out there. But they are all air driven and you will need an air compressor. I use air driven tools for 75% of my work, I find them a lot easier to control, and less expensive. Many companies make pencil style dremels. You can spend 50- 150 bucks, but I don't over-invest in air tools. Check out: http://www.mytoolstore.com/astro/astdig02.html#1240 You will see the Astro AST-218. Uses 1/8 shank bits and perfect for etching and deburring. You can get good deals on air compressors as well.

Well Sorta..Its going else where on the case (not in a CD Rom drive bay. I have to extend my case by 3 inches...so Im going to put an etching in the front. The edges aren't clean because you wont see those... Ive found that when etching The Flex shaft is easier to use than the dremel itself. Ive also found that useing a lower speed is better (more control) I usualy use a setting of 5 or 6, but Ive found 2 or 3 works good as well. Thanks Everyone Last edited by Nerdz; 03-August-05 at 12:29 PM..

| Looking at the etch job, you notice the LED effect on the filled in portion (TOU and part of the R) as well as the outlined... IMO, it depends on the overall look of the case project. In some situations, the outlined look would work better, and in others, the "filled-in" look would be best... If you have two more pieces about the same size, I would try to do it both ways (one outlined, the other filled in), then compare it to the finished product and see which one you like the best... But that's just me... | ||
