Exactely what are you looking to do performance mods, pretty mods, totally new case? Psylariser has done some nice Xbox mods and www.xbox-scene.com is a good site.

I do some Xbox modding myself. But Sum_12_fear is right...what are you looking for? There's performance (mod chips, hard drive upgrades, dvd drive upgrades, etc...) and then there's modding just for looks (painting the case, putting on a skin, putting it in an entirely new case, changing the jewel and/or the jewel's color, adding lights and LED's, etc.) and then there's modding for the cool factor (such as adding a power button to your controller to turn the xbox on/off and then filling the original power hole with bondo and repainting). If you have any questions, I can do my best to help you, and I know there are several other members on this site that are probably more knowledgeable than myself. And the link Sum_12_fear posted is the site where I get most of my information. It has an extensive tutorial section, you should check it out.

Standard Xbox mods (besides the mod chips) are painting, clearing & backlighting the jewel (or replacing it with a custom one), cutting windows for the DVD drive, replacing the rear fan with an 80mm, lighting the controller ports, changing the colors of the power/eject LED's, and putting in a remote power button (either in a controller or using a wireless doorbell).

As Sum said, xbox-scene is a good site for that stuff, but they're none to friendly if you come in asking questions that've already been answered in their tutorials, so be sure to check those out first.

Used to be a member around PR (maybe he's still here) named TykSak. He runs a modding site that does a lot of Xbox work; there are fifty-some examples in their Xbox gallery.

EDIT: Psy beat me to it

Take a PS2 and swap the guts between the 2. heh.

I think the clear mods really look nice, especially with illumination.
What about a fully clear case?

Theres a mod somwhere with water cooling - the guy used your basic waterblock, very thin little number. Bought a simple back box, twice the depth of the xbox box, and set about builing up a res rad pump in there, with the 2 pipes either going up through the bottom of the xbox, or going through the back grills. Very nice design, and He could sure add more stuff- windows, lighting. The possibilities are greatly improved with the PC-like conections loittering the xbox components.

Here is linkage to HARDOCP tutorial.
Here is linkage to Xbox Scene tutorial.

Just a little thing if you have a clear X-box you could go over all the mobo ect ect with UV high lighter, We did it at my mates house and then we put some UV CC's in there is came out a treat Just make sure the high lighters are not conductive and if they are water based leave it to dry for atleast 2 hours.

I've never seen a clear Xbox case in person, but I see them on the net all the time. It seems to me though that with the way the xbox is set up you still wouldn't be able to see much of the motherboard even with a completely clear case. It's all hidden by the hard drive and DVD drive right on top of it.

What is this Mod chip? Is it possible to play burned games without one? Also if I were to get one would it be worth it to get the non-soddering adapter?

Edit:

If I were to get one is this a good one? (where does it says if it needs sodder or not?) Also has anyone heard of this company?

Thanks

That looks like a good modchip choice to me. As for the adapter, that depends on your soldering skills. If you are unsure of your ability with a soldering iron, I would recommend the adapter.

It is possible to install Linux without a modchip through an exploit in James Bond but seriously get a modchip. Way more trouble then its worth. Cool performance/visual mod is modding your jewel then attatch it to a LED fan on the top of your Xbox pretty pimp.

Yes you need to flash the chip, you'll need to download a bios from IRC or somewhere as they're not entirly legal.

Wondering if i'll get bitchslapped by a mod for this, but whatever... Ok, the easiest thing to do would be to check IRCSpy or something for "Slayers Evox Auto Install" or something like that. I'm pretty sure that image has a bios on it. Burn the CD, select flash bios in the options somewhere on the screen that comes up when you boot with the chip. Then after that, select the evox bios or whatever it says, and then it should auto-install Slayers Evolution X dashboard. It comes preloaded with ripping software, DVD players, a buncha skins, all the basic stuff you'd need. I've only done this once, with help, so im not positive i covered everything. I'd message Lunamods, he knows a bit more about xbox modding than i do. Here are two threads (1) (2) on my xbox project.
