Default 454 Big Block Chevy

I am currently in the process of building a 454 cubic inch engine with massive torque for four wheeling. It is is going in a 72' chevy 3/4 ton longbed chevy pickup with a total of 11 inches of lift and 40" tires.

I will have some pics tomorrow

4x4? massive torque? Thats right up my alley. If you are in the area I'd do a truck pull against my 69 dodge.

ALL STOCK, 69' Powerwagon. Max speed is 60 mph. 383ci engine.

Slightly here, but has anyone ever thought of modding one of those model engines into a PC?

ROFLMAO!!!! Your POS is jacked up as well?? ROFL

Why dont you just come out and say your penis is an inch long?

i will take you on, where do you live anyway?

With my current setup i have in excess of 19000 foot pounds of torque. my wheels turn at 38 rpm.... but thats not the question.

When i saw that pic I almost fell out of my chair laughing.

Uh O.K, that was rather rude. I build hot rods and pickups that are lowered and lifted, stock sucks. It is my hobby to mod my vehicles as well as my computers.

And it is Physically impossible to have 19,000 foot pounds of torque a driveline or u-joint or rear end can not handle that. In the records for vehicles so far the Dodge Sidewinder(pickup) with the Cummins Turbo Diesel has the max torque rating of of 1600. My M1A2 Abrahms tank with a turbine engine had 1400 foot pounds of torque, so poop on you.

Thanks for the support but I need to spread my love, DAMMIT!

Oh and godfoot I think that is a great Idea, I think I will incorporate that in my phasechange cooling mod with an automobile compressor and a electric motor(psst dont tell Zenn, I'm planning something crafty)

Can't wait to see the 454, but I'll still dust it off with one of my spark plug wires pulled off on the street or in the desert.... but yah, you'll clobber me in mud.

What's the transfer case/axles going to be? Built up slush or stick?

luckybob, that was just ****ing uncalled for in a cool conversation about engines. Obviously you have issues with folks that have a bigger truck (penis) than you. Learn to play nice.

I never owned a PW, but had a 79 TD. Damn thing would power through stuff my buddies huge Chevy and Ford trucks would die in. However, it still can't hold a candle to the truck I got now. I admit, I am loath to go out and beat it up on the trail, but on the street I have been having a blast with it.

So your saying your 35 year old truck has about 30-40 times the torque of the best modern trucks made? Deisel or gas?

Even allowing for a mistake on the number of zeros. That still makes you a teller of very tall tales.

I'm gonna guess he's bein' a nimrod and calculating out final torque based upon flywheel start number, then calculating in first gear x low range x axle ratio. Which we all know is flawed, but it's what happens when someone with half a clue tries to be cool. If you even want to use that apple to oranges comparison, you still need to factor in a 20%+ drive train loss on a stick and a 30%+ loss on a automatic of that vintage.

With those calculations btw, my soccer mom Jeep still beats his Powerwagon soundly.

Nah, 190 foot pounds could be pretty accurate. Maybe 1900 inch pounds? Oh, I know, it was 19,000 ounce inches (98.958 foot pounds).

just like you are doing now....

My truck is as follows. (100% stock which in the AUTOMOBILE world is far bettern than modified)

1969 383ci 2 barrel http://www.allpar.com/squads/engines.html

290 HP and 390 ft/lbs torque. (somewhere else i found that it was 375 footpounds @ 2000 rpm) and thats just the engine....

New Process 435 manual transmssion. first gear is a 6.28:1 ratio.

New process 205 transfercase (first year even) 1.96:1 (low) http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/techarticles/26259/

Low geared rear end. Dodge model 41. 4.1:1 gear ratio

do the math yourself

and pictures of my baby
http://www.sweptline.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=883

keep in mind it is ALL origional, save for the wheels but all i did was change the crappy 7 inch 15"s to 8 inch 15"

There is also a factory installed PTO winch in the front. 1/2 cable. last owner said it could pull down trees as big as you can get your arms around. (I can't prove this....)

The above numbers are correct for a 2 barrel 383. 290 hp and 390 torque. The transfer case in also correct since it was the only NP that could be adapted to PTO. The 375 was a cam switch in 1971, which while it sounds bad is actually a good thing because it shifted the band down low where a truck likes it. But anyways, no one states their hp/torque in final gear ratio.

ADD: and a PTO winch will always out perform an electric/hydralic normally. The description is actually close (thought he said AN arm around first time I read it). The problem is if you've flipped over and the engine doesn't run. Small trick - pull your spark plugs (so there is no compression) and use the starter to get yourself out/flipper back up.

Damn! That sounds like something that needs to be proven. You get the pics lucky, and I'll find some bling to send your way. But, the tree needs to be Iateronmly's choice.

My 1950 could pull over a few year old apple tree. Then again my 1950 was rated at close to 12k.

"last owner said it could pull down trees as big as you can get your arms around." But he did say he can't prove this. That's why I would like to see if the current owner can prove it.

EDIT: In all fairness to Mentyl with his 454 thread, if this side conversation continues it will be moved to a new thread. Let me know if it will continue.
