Default aluminum question

i recently purchased some aluminum rod for a fan grill that i'm working on, and i'm looking for suggestions on how to attatch the rod to itself (soldering, etc.). i'm presently googling for answers, but i'm not coming up with the info that i want. any suggestions?

at what point are you trying to connect the rod, side to side, end to side, or end to end.

end to side (trying to make a spider web).
i found some info that suggests soldering may not be the way to go (evidently, soldering aluminum can be very tricky).
any suggestions on alternative methods are welcome (excluding duct tape ).

EDIT: has anyone used aluminum soldering paste? http://www.caswellplating.com/aids/s...t.htm#aluminum (scroll down for the product description).

thanks for the feedback. as always, it is much appreciated.
BA: good suggestion , but i'm gonna need more material to make the joints aesthetically pleasing (even with the glue expansion, i don't think it'll be enough).
Arkangyl: i'll check it out

if the alum. turns out to be too much of a PIA (where it appears to be heading), i'll go back to the salvage yard and see if they have any copper rod (i know it'll be easier to solder...and you can't beat the prices - i got about 100 feet of alum rod for $2). hopefully i'll figure this out and have some pics to post soon. thanks again.
