Default need a 0-5v output

Im not sure if this is something that can be answered but, i need to convert something from a 12v output to a 5v output. I have an air fuel ratio guage for a car that gives a digital numeric reading of how rich the car is running. The guage has an output by way of a serial cable that would plug into a computer. I believe this serial cable is a 12v signal. The problem is the program that i use to log the data from the airfuel guage can only interpret a 0-5v signal from the ecu(car's computer) I need to convert this 12v serial cable to a 0-5v output so that i can tap it into the cars computer so that my program can read it. If you need more info i will try to get it. Thanks
