LCD power Supply

I guy in my dorm got a LCD monitor off ebay and it didn't come with a power supply and doesn't want to spend $40 on a power supply. So I tried connecting the LCD to the computer power supply but that didn't work for some reason. The LCD uses 12 volts at 3 amps so I made a cable that connect to the 12 volts on the power supply. Hooked every thing up and the LCD would not turn on. If you guys have any ideas let me know thanks.

Uh...I'm confused.

If you mean that it didn't come with a power cord, I'm sure that Radio Shack's got one for a couple of bucks.

What is it that you mean exactly?

Ahhh! Bad idea as "Wall -Warts" sold at RadioShack are not filtered.

I strongly suggest you not mess with it. I really hope you didn't reverse the polarity or anything that could kill it. Dropping $40 is a lot less painful than getting a whole new LCD because of experiments.

The LCD still works because we used the power supply from my LCD. I am going to tell him just to get a power supply because I am not getting anything out of this and I dont want to mess it up.
