| I want so sleeve some of the cables in my comp and was looking around at whats out there. I found a link in another thread on the forum that directed me to cableorganizer.com. I was originally going to go with red, as all my lighting is going to be red. Then I thought hey wouldn't that be cool if I went with chrome? I was looking at getting either the Chrome xc, or flexo chrome (please give me your opinions on which one to use! thx) but I noticed that in the flexo chrome description it mentions something about being conductive. I am concerned that this might be a potential problem in my case. Is it possible it could short something out? I remember reading something in one of the sleeving threads where spyrius said a new power supply he got came with a chrome sleeve on one of the wires. Also which color shrink tube do you think would go best with the chrome sleeving? Finally... bear with me on this... My buddy got one of those black power supply sleeving kits, I noticed on the smaller sleeve sizes you could see through the sleeving, so I was thinking of shrink tubing the entire cable. Do you think that would be necessary? Thanks for any help | ||

| I like the Vantec Sleeving kits, they come with everything you need, and I would be happy to show you some techniques. The Chrome cable Idea seems awesome I have seen IDE cables with chrome braided sleeving, if you do a good job I doubt anything will short out. It will also help with EMI ![]() | ||

I dont think it would be practical to HS the whole cable. it would make it stiff and also it wouldnt match the rest of your sleeving. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I second what Zer0s said. Get a sleeving kit als, mainly because it'll help you with the guess work since everything is basically included that you will need for sleeving ![]() Heres another link for you: http://www.xoxide.com/techflex2.html | ||

| A sleeving kit's a good idea. I used chrome on my PSU wires, though I went with 1/4" split loom from AutoZone ($10.99). The split loom was nice in that you don't have to remove all the molex connectors. But someday when I have free time, I still have to work on the area where the loom meets the molex, cause the loom won't come right up to the molex (that's where the sleeving kit makes itself worth every penny). | ||

| Apex Master Tech | Performance-pcs.com has all kinds of computer modding stuff. They sell Chrome sleeving (and others too) by the foot. They have UV Molex if you want some xtra bling bling, though I am waiting for a particular kit (AC RYAN) that they were supposed to have a while ago. They sell 80mm fans pulled from PSU's (Check out the Antec Ultima II's if you visit) for @ $1. | |

| Well as you can see here in this picture I don't really need a whole sleeving kit. Although it might be nice because you get quite an assortment of product, I think I will still just by some by the foot. Lastly what color shrink tubing do you think would go best with the chrome color sleeving? Oh by the way I am just gonna post a link cuz I am not sure how to resize the pic. http://gallery.pcapex.com/uploads/6053/DSC00009.JPG Down at the bottom of the mobo where the power button and leds plug in I am going to drill 2 holes in the mobo tray and run the sleeved cable through those with rubber grommits. | Apex Master Tech | Black heatshrink will provide a nice contrast to the chrome (it'll probably look the best too). Maybe get some black molex connectors and put them on the end. It might look good with other colors too, that's why I suggested looking at Performance-PC's PSU's. They have a lot of different combinations and you can see what looks good. | Oh yeah sorry Ryj forgot to mention that performance-pcs is where I decided to get it from! Seemed to me to have the best product selection of all the links posted, Thanks! Also, to make it a little easier on me, can anyone help me with heatshrink and sleeving sizes? the two cables on the bottom that already have h/s on they will be sleeved together, and the bundle of wires just to the right of those will be sleeved together, I have just the one power cable for the vid card that will need it, as well as the two other cables to the left of the chip (the smaller of the two is hidden behind the other) Can you tell I am computer illiterate as I have no clue what to call all those connectors? haha! | ||

| I agree with Ryj, I think black would look good. Nice move putting the hard drive backwards; it really hides a lot of the wires. And you could also move the PC speaker either behind the mobo tray or below the hard drive, though you'd have to make a custom mount for it. [EDIT] You may want to order several lengths of several different diameters of sleeving and plan on having some extra. I found that 1/4" loom is about the right size for a single four-wire power connector, but it may be different with that sleeving. You'll probably want a larger size for those two presleeved wires (maybe 3/8"?), and a really big size for the mobo connector. I can't get at the Performance PC's site right now (firewall problems), so I can't see what they offer. ![]() Hmm... I see what you mean; you probably wouldn't want to run the chrome sleeving right on top of the motherboard. Could you route the video card wire behind the mobo tray, then come back in by the hard drive? Or maybe through the holes you're drilling... Sorry for the big edit; other posts had been made before I finished replying.[/EDIT] Last edited by FunkyFresh; 01-September-04 at 10:32 AM.. | ||

| Apex Master Tech | Try something like this with the heatshrink (borrowed from THW01F). I believe he shrunk the cable and the sleeving, then shrunk another piece (larger) halfway on the molex. Pretty smart, and the effect make it looks smooth. You can prolly cut out the 6 pin AUX connector and save some time. (One to right of gfx card) Edit 1: maybe it just looks chrome. Who would use it it if was? Edit 2: Deleted all the Heatshrink sizes...since they were all wrong.....no clue what's i'm talking about ![]() Edit 3: OK I see your problem. I can place about where the holes will be, you should run the molex connector (as well as the usb and front panel indicators) through there. So plan on making a decent sized hole. Just run the molex behind the tray and use the second molex connector to reach the card. Then pull the excess wire back through the hole and hide it behind the tray. You can probably cut off the AUX connector to save space as well. Last edited by Ryj; 01-September-04 at 10:59 AM.. | |

| Hey good idea about the vid card connector. I would use the second molex connector for it, except that it powers my two red led fans on the panel. I will probably end up getting the power for those from something else anyway when my ccfl's show up so I will probably do that. | ||

| Well heres the official response from Performance-pcs.com. I am totally and completely impressed with this company already and haven't even placed an order yet. I emailed them maybe 3 hours ago, and I already have a response. I've emailed other companies with questions regarding to products for my computer at least 2 weeks ago and havent heard from them yet! I will be ordering today! Hello, We placed an ohmmeter on the sleeve and have never found it to be conductive in the slightest. Still a good idea not to lay anything on electrical components in general though. Best Regards, Hank Baron Performance PC's, Inc. | ||

| Apex Master Tech | SUUUUURRRE You want to read some of the lovely responces he's sent me? I had already sent another message asking about AC Ryan Products ( i seem to have deleted them) but here is the last one (I put it in correct order): ME: What is the expected date that we will be able to purchase AC Ryan products like the ConnectX kits I mentioned in previous enquiries? RESPONCE: I would say 2 - 2 1/2 weeks. We added a few fan specials on the site. We may have soldering irons sometime in the future. Just need to find a good source. Best Regards, Hank Baron Now this is all fine and dandy but I got this reply on JULY 26! | |
