Unhappy New Mother Board Question

hi,
Im gonna buy a new mobo soon but i need to know this , if i buyu a intel p4 board will it fit all pentium chip im not talking bout real old but i dont know the name of my prossesor its definetly pentium but will it matter if i just get 'any' p4 board will it be compatible?

Help is much needed :S

And it also states on the mnual celeron? i dont knwo what to do

No not all pentium chips will work in any P4 board - you will need to know the exact type and speed of your processor.

the booklet it came with states is a 2.0 celeron but i had a p4 1.8 in there before cos i broke my p4 so they replaced it with a celeron

Well that was nice of them - they screwed you there.

Basically you could put any 400 MHz front side bus processor in there fairly safe - should work if your using a celeron now. Although some motherboards will only supports up to a certain speed, so you would be best staying right around where your at night. Not any way of telling if you could use 533 or 800 MHz chip or quicker chips until you find out what model.

I would download a utility and check your motherboard model number and then check their website for info.

ouch i would have bitched so bad. they ripped you off bad. but you will need to check the socket of your "new" board and match it with your CPU that you have.

Uhm, isnt that a Gigabyte board? Or do ECS board model numbers start with a GA And also, that gigabyte logo too.

And root, signature images are limited to 150 pixels high, 600 pixels wide. Also, tell the shop to get an Abit motherboard. best RMA policey invented.
