| Apex Tech Fanatic | I chose to decide to paint my own car as the existing paintjob is showing its age. I chose to paint it Midnight Blue. I first preped the front bumper with 80grit sandpaper to remove most of the paint, followed with 180grit, then painted with many coats of primer. I then sanded the primer with 600grit and followed with the paint. These pictures are after the paint. I need to sand down with 2000grit and clearcoat it and then it should be finished. Any input on my project is accepted of course. Keep in mind once I sand it down and rubit out and clearcoat it the high spots of paint will dissapear leaving a nice finish. | |

| Midnight Blue- Thats going to be hard to do decently with rattle cans... I would have gone with a more true color like black...still..it takes ambition to spray a car the way your doing it. Edit-Are those turn signals legal? Blue? Last edited by Ben; 28-July-04 at 03:00 AM.. Reason: ^ | ||

| Apex Tech Fanatic | They are not turn signals, they are Parking lights. I've had them blue for a year now and I have been pulled over before for speeding and the Police Officer didn't mention anything. I also have blue underglow, blue license plate neon, blue side marker lights, and the police dont seem to care. The middle picture is of my angel eyes. They look pretty cool at night.I made them myself, and it was pretty easy. BTW the last picture shows what happened when I tried black, it cracked my rubber bumper up like a bitch, so I had to sand it down and try again but the midnight blue seems to be working beautifully. | |

| for some reason, this reminds me of when I went and saw "2 fast 2 furious" at the drive-in. A bunch of kiddies had their crummy looking cars that you could tell were burning oil but had the undercarriage lighting and were acting so cool about it. Then my car exploded. Blew a head-gasket and half the coolant hoses during the movie. People were laughing at me until the smoke covered the screen :-D | ||

| Apex Tech Fanatic | Here's an update. Sanded down and smoothed out my front bumper and I also painted the gas tank cover aswell. The quality shows now. It is possible to rattlecan your car and comeout with a good quality paintjob. Just takes time and effort. For example I put about 5 hours worth of work into my bumper and about an hours worth of work into the gas tank cover. Over half of the hours I put in was just into sanding. BTW here is a link for Angel Eyes: http://students.washington.edu/ashis...gel%20Eyes.htm | |

| I think that I would of invested in a nicer car??? Looks like to time consuming of a job! Especially the way you are doing it. I mean if this was a classic and you had it garaged and was painting piece by piece it wouldn't be bad.....but this looks to be your primary vehilcle that you drive around half (quarter) painted and half not. This is just my opinion and you ask for it! And show us the rest of the car so we can see what it is going to look like when you are all done. Maybe then we can actaully see what it will look like then! | ||

| Apex Tech Fanatic | Actually the car is garaged and has been garaged its entire life. The previous owner and the owner before that (his brother) both garaged the car. Infact it wasn't used between 1992 and 2002 and was up on blocks. Yes it is considered my primary vehicle; I do drive it every day, a few hundred clicks every day in fact. Roll about 1000 on it every week. | |

I keep looking over your post and don't quite understand what your getting at, but if its anythign that I think your saying, mocking me, I can reassure you that my engine is running on 90000km, it was almost brand new when I bought my car. It's a transplant from a crashed Supra Celica. I don't burn any oil and I'm not trying to be the fast and the furious kinda guy, I'm just trying to mod my car, just like we mod our computers.

| If I were you, B-boy, I'd stop where I was and take that POS to the closest Earl Schrib or Macco ASAP. Better a professionally crappy paint job at one of those chop-shops than what you are doing. And BTW....painting a car is not really modding it. At least, not the way you are doing it. ![]() One more thing..."angel eyes" on square sealed beam headlights scream "RICER"! | ||

| They have garages in Canada?! J/K. Before you all knock his choice of car, people have different taste. What might be ugly to you is a treasure to some one else. I see it every day working at a Hot Rod shop. I think Anglias'(old british car) are ugly but we worked on one that has a 10 second quarter mile and the guy loves it. I think Nashes and Model Ts' are ugly also. There are also alot of people who consider that Supra a collecters piece. There are clubs for them. Also I've seen alot of them race and whoop ass. The higher end models have an inline six and I've seen a Turbocharged one do a 9 second quarter mile. Also don't cap on him for painting his car with rattle cans, thats how I started and now I just charged a guy $25,000 to paint his Truck and his boat to match. We all got to start somewhere. | ||

Affirmative. However...this doesnt look nearly as bad as the elderly diarreaa case you posted way back when. If you can keep a consistent color like shown on the gas tank plate, accross the whole car, I won't be mailing you a box of failure feces. ![]()

There are lots of Maaco's in Canada. For what its gonna cost you in bomb can you could take it there and have it done professionally and it would look pretty good. I actually painted for a Maaco for a few years so thats how I know they have them there. Dont laugh Mentyl, it was a job, that paid exteremely well for an 18 year old.
