Default Xbox Project Log

So i'm modding my xbox, inside and out, mod chip, hard drive updrive, controller light mods, case mods, the whole 9 yards... So everywhere says you can clear your jewel easily with acentone, take the nasty green paint right off. So i get some nail polish remover outa my sisters big nail polish caddy and procede to start stripping the paint. What i didn't notice is that it was "Salon Formula" acetone free nail polish remover. Took the paint off, but it clouded the plastic, both sides, and its next to impossible to polish the round side. So my question is, does anyone know of anywhere that sells already cleared xbox jewels? I'm specifically looking for a stock jewel still with the silver behind the xbox logo. I saw them somewhere a while ago, but now i cant find the site. If anyone knows a place that has them for <$15 it would be a huge help on this project.

Edit: Changed the title, since the thread is now more than me complaining about acetone free nail polish remover...

I know Llamma.com has the stock green jewels for $10. I used sandpaper to clear mine, and it turned out great. I remember seeing the clear-and-silver ones somewhere too; lemme see if I can find it again...

EDIT: Found one place. They have the cleared xbox ones for $15.95, but they also have other designs for $8.99.

Used toothpaste on a piece of paper for a good couple of minutes on the bottom and it looks pretty good, but the top is rounded, so its not an easy thing to polish. I'm gonna keep working on it this weekend, but if it doesn't look good sunday night i'm ordering one from wherever.

You need some 4000 and 6000 grit cloth sandpaper to get it back to normal. The best thing to do to clear a jewel is to sand the green off with 320 grit and the apply a couple coats of clear spray paint to the bottom. It will look like it was never sanded, the clear will fill the scratches and be crystal clear.

I was lazy and didn't want to sand, so i used nail polish remvoer, all the paint is off, but whatever was in the stuff fogged the plastic, both sides of the jewel. Not really sure how to go about polishing the top, but i'm going to work at it with toothpaste.

The sanding with high grit sand paper should work just fine. But the sand papers propbably will cost atlest a few dollars, if you don't already have it laying around. Since a replacement jewel is like $10.. might as well use the paper for the sandpaper and put it toward the replacement.

If you get a chance, post some pics of yoru mod. I am intersted in seeing how it looks.

Sitting here watching videos, with a tube of colgate polishing away. The good news for the night... Got EvoX installed and my 160GB hard drive formatted and installed, Halo, Project Gotham 2 and Jedi Outcast are already on the hard drive, and tomorrow will be a day of ripping. Time to break out the good vodka to celebrate.

Cool, glad you got Evox going with no probs, My personal favorite is XBMC as a dash, it has everthing integrated and theres no need to switch apps to play DVDs, music,DivX etc. I start Evox whenever my 9 year old wants to play. Its good for n00bs. Actually if it werent for all the features that XBMC offers I would use Evox. Ive got a couple Evox skinning apps if you need one. Plus about 500 skins. I have 37 titles installed on my HDD atm with about 90Gb left, along with tons of apps and dashes. If you dont know already, Complex Tools and DVD2XBOX are the best rippers. I prefer DVD2XBOX as it is more stable and automatically patches .xbe's when needed and removes un-needed files on some games to save space, which helps a lot. If ya need help with anything let me know

Yeah, my friend hooked me up with "SlaYer's EvoX Auto-Installer", after getting it burned right it was about 10 miinutes before i was ripping games with DVD2Xbox. The installer came with a couple hundred skins or so, so i should be set for finding something to match my case mod once its done.

Yeah, i signed up for that deal where for $35 you can have 2 games out for as long as you want and you can swap em any time, unfortunatly that ends tomorrow, so i have to get ripping. I may end up getting the 1 out for $20 deal.

So anyway, update on the actual modding... Nicht zu gut. Its been over an hour, my fingers are sore from polishing, i went through sever sheets of paper and quite a bit of toothpaste and the Jewel looks no better. Anyone else have any links to pre cleared jewels? Or does anyone know if that one at pimpmyxbox.com is what i'm looking for (stock jewel, still with silver backing on lettering, but no green paint)?

Hoodlumz Productions is pretty much me and my friends ****ing around with a video camera and 3DS. We have some pretty stupid videos, but we did produce a short film, Mullet Wars, which is avalible for free download as a DivX'd *.avi. We also have a sequel coming out later this summer, as well as some shorts; involving fat people eating, mallwalkers and beating cops with golf clubs, which should be out as soon as we get around to them...

Edit: Hmm, kinda common to be censored, my Grandfathers name is ****, which is short for Richard. Rid**** is an unnecesary sequel to Pitch Black, a decent standalone film.

Default Xbox Project...

Well, i might as well just turn this into my project thread for my xbox untill i finish my modding website. So yeah, the guts are done, Xenium modchip installed, EvoX loaded, 160Gb HD installed, and about a dozen games loaded so far... Now onto the modding...

Yesterday i spent about 3 hours working on my xbox with the hacksaw and my dremel. I still have to clean up my cuts now that my dremels charged again. I also have to cut the DVD ROM window in both the case and the drive, as well as another window in the case. Other than that not much to do except peel the sticker off my hard drive and polish it, and cut away part of the hard drive tray. I just dropped some of money on various supplies... Got a clear (i hope cleared) jewel for $12 total from pimpmyxbox.com, two 4" green CCFL (and something special for another secret mod project, expect updates soon), and a green Fireworks LED fan from Xoxide. Unfortunatly LSDiodes site seems to be down, so it may be a while before i can get LEDs, so any controller mods i had planned will probably be on hold untill they're back up. Also, unrelated, but i found and ordered the extra HD cage for my Chenbro X-Spider from diymicro.com. I'll probably finish cutting my case and the DVD drive tomorrow if i have time and if it doesn't rain, and run to the hardware store to get some plexi to finish it off... After that, just gotta wait for the friendly neighborhood UPS man to show so i can finish my masterpiece. I'm doing mostly standard mods, but my DVD window's a little different and i did throw in one completly unique idea that should set mine apart from the rest. Stay tuned for updates and maybe some pics.

Well, LSDiodes is back up, ordered what i needed from them ($20 buys a lot of LEDs), the lighted USB cables i needed were back in stock at Newegg ($6 shipping for $6.20 of merchendise!?!?) so yeah, now that i have all the parts ordered, i should have my xbox project finished by the end of the week, this weekend at the latest. The only dificulty so far is slow going cutting the DVD rom window. I'm new to heavy dremel work, and a 10k RPM cordless isn't the best for cutting heavy gauge steel, even with the carbon fiber cutting discs. Hopefully i'll have that cut and cleaned tomorrow (dremels charging, again...) and have all the real case modding finished. After that, its mostly extensive wiring work on the controlers. Well, i promised pictures last post, so heres a sneak preview. It still needs some cleaning up of the plastic scrudlies, but for the most part i'm satisfied with it. I still have to cut the DVD window and a window on the opposite arm of the X. The CCFLs will go under the un-windowed arms.

Heh, my dremel couldn't handle that. I did the major cutting with a hacksaw, took me about 3 hours, then spent 2 hours yesterday cleaning it up with a cutting bit, a grinding bit and some sandpaper.
